Is Corel Painter = Corel Photopaint?

paint newsgroups, thought I was the only person left using Corel, until I
came across this bunch of survivors. Tellin' ya, the product's great but I
wonder if Adobe's paying Corel's marketing people to make it look like it's
dead.
Corel's web site doesn't mention photopaint but you guys are talking about
it. They talk about something called Corel Painter.
- Is Painter the same as Photopaint (only they hid the Photopaint name so
Photopaint users would think Photopaint was dead, so they'd go to Adobe
instead?)
- What is Painter?
- How do you get Photopaint now?
- does Photopaint have a future?

Corel PhotoPaint is still mentioned on the Corel website, you just
have to click a few times.

There is a product description and FAQ for Painter that attempts
to note the difference between it and PhotoShop. By implication
[sadly their marketing department appears to still be employed]
this also applies to PhotoPaint. Painter is an application that
attempts to mimic natural paint methods, whereas PhotoPaint and
PhotoShop are image editing applications. As usual Corel bought
another company and did their usual crappy marketing job of
either integrating it into their product line or at least explaining
in simple terms what the different apps would be good for.
Think Painter is the old Fractal Paint or similar name, picked up
a while ago. There may be old press releases on Corel website.
The fact that you can create your own brushes and textures in
PhotoPaint isn't even mentioned.

Sadly, whatever moron is in charge of Corel Marketing appears to
have skillfilly eliminated all useful information from their
website. There used to be a "Whats in the box" link for every
product so you could tell what Corel applications are actually
included.
This information *may* still be on the website, but it sure the
heck ain't obvious any more.
PhotoPaint is still in the full Corel Draw. Whether it is in
the Essentials or not, can't immediately tell.
There is also the Graphics Suite which has PhotoPaint, but not
at all obvious.

Sure got lotsa "Buy Now" buttons, but not a bit of useful
info on what each product includes.

Aha, it was Fractal Design Painter, procreate Painter, etc.
Intended more for creation of digital artwork as opposed to
being intended as an image editor like PhotoPaint or PhotoShop.

If I see that correctly, used the procreate label (for professional
creators) for just over half a year?!
Neither Painter nor Knockout are being sold under that dasignation
anymore but are back under the Corle umbrella ...
Anybody sure they even got a marketing department?
