Cooking is probably what made our species truly human.
It provided much more nutrition from meat, turning hunting from a
suplememt to a subsistance activity. In the process, the nature and
length of the human digestive system became modified.
It gave us the ability to derive nourishment from grasses, and so gave
rise to agriculture.
