Yup. Clearing out all the 'fringe' products that don't really sell. Very limited stocks, but some stupid prices. Most lines are down to shelf stock only.

But a lot of the stuff they sell is filth - unfit for human consumption (not, of course, that many of the downmarket customers who waddle out of Iceland with overflowing bags of processed rubbish can be classified as 'human')

Indeed I do - but, probably, not as noisily, nor as messily as you do - because I don't fill my digestive system with 'One Thousand Beef Burgers For Only £2.99'
You certainly know when 'Mum's been to Iceland' - because Dad and the rest of the family have chronic diarrhoea....

Agreed - 'Farm Foods' (what a misnomer!!) is probably two or three steps down the gastronomic ladder from Iceland! - at which point the consumers feet are firmly embedded in pure pig-swill...
These places seem to specialise in retailing foodstuffs that would provoke an RSPCA investigation if they were served up to dogs!
The rule of thumb seems to be, The nastier the product, the more 'Countrified the name!. Got some disgusting old offal to shift? - no problemo. just process the entire loathsome mess into ''Sausages' and flog them under a suitable name, such as 'Dappled Meadow' - if they're cheap enough, they're sure to sell!
Personally, I think that these 'food' centres contain more hazardous chemicals than a Pharmacy - indeed, to call it 'Food' seems to be a clear beach of the laws on product description!

There was a lot of stock in Iceland Batley this morning. A lot of branded names too - I got some Twinings Gold teabags (usually 2.49) for 99p.
BUt then Iceland is next to Netto and Aldi in Batley - discount supermarket joy!

They're stopping their internet and telephone sales too aren't they? Wonder what's happening?

They've been recently bought out. I'm supposing the new owner doesn't think those lines are profitable enough.

I thought they had a policy of no added crap and colourings which accounts for the somewhat bland taste and peas that aren't luminous green like Sainsburys et al.

The Big Food Group very recently was sold to an overseas outfit. Doubtless they are starting the first part of a business reorganisation.
It seems to be the case in such circumstances that one tack is to sell off unwanted bits either to places where competitors have no presence and want an easy way in or where a competitor can just buy to close. Who can really say whether there will even be an Iceland chain as we currently know it in 12 months time?

Baugur's investment partners are former Iceland directors from before the Big Food Group.
Namely Malcolm Walker, who founded the company back in the early 70s, his finance (Tarsem Dhaliwal) and buying directors (Nigel Broadhurst).
Walker's 'Cool Trader' chain has also been absorbed into the 'new' Iceland.
I can safely say that there will be an Iceland chain in 12 months, but it'll be more like the one that existed 10 years ago than the one that has been trading for the last 5 years or so. -- Steve H 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' http://www.italiancar.co.uk - Honda VFR800 - MZ ETZ300 VW Golf GL Cabrio - Alfa 75 TS - VW Passat 1.8T 20V SE - COSOC KOTL BoTAFOT #87 - BoTAFOF #18 - MRO # - UKRMSBC #7 - Apostle #2 - YTC #

Got some great bargains in our local Iceland branch today.
Bottles of wine reduced to £1.74 which are selling for £5 a throw in other local supermarkets!
