I ordered a Nintendo Wii from AvVillage last night.
just had a phone call off them saying they can't take credit/debit
card payment from first time customers.
So can I transfer the payment instead.
This sounds very iffy to me and I'm not sure weather to proceed or
not.
Any advice appreciated

When it comes to payments for goods online always use a credit card. If
someone says you can pay by credit card and then suddenly there is a problem
and they want you to pay by a method without payment protection I would say
a big "no thanks goodbye" and go elsewhere.

If it was really cheap you also have to ask yourself "why would anyone sell
a just released and hard to source console for much less than anyone else?"
More people are willing to pay a premium to get one than there are consoles
available.

AVOID AVVILLAGE!!!

Its a shame there was no warnings about this lot on the web before last
week. I ordered an LCD TVv from AVVillage on Nov 30th using credit card
(thankfully). I did get a call saying it would be 5-10 days before it
could be sent out, and they didn't charge my card yet. So although
their website looks a little ropey and they didn't seem to know how to
run a piss up in a brewery, I kept the order because it was a really
good price and i knew I'd be covered with the credit card anyway.

And what do you know... today I check my credit card online, and
there's been £1100 taken (the TV I ordered was £600). So I called my
card company and they traced it and it was an order to John Lewis's
that had not been dispatched so it was all cancelled for me. And I was
also informed that a £5200 charge had been declined!! They also tried
to spend that at a PC shop/website!! Cheeky buggers! But all has been
cancelled and no harm done to me thankfully. They apparently used an
alternative address with John Lewis's so hopefully the b####rds are
gonna get a visit from the police at some point.

So... maybe it is just some unscrupulous AVVillage employee, or maybe
the whole website is just a cover to try to get card details. Either
way... they were useless as a retailer anyway, so i would steer well
clear.

Take care out there in the big wide web!

It might be worth flagging it as a bogus site within Firefox to help
prevent other people getting scammed. It may help if you can include
some of your own tale of woe, and any police reference number.

Hi, ive recently cancelled an order for an LCD TV. After placing the
order i tried to contact them to confirm a delivery date. They dont
answer the phone and dont respond to any emails even though they say
they have a dedicated sales team. I finally sant them a message
cancelling the order and called my bank to stop the payment. I advise
you to always use a credit card because you're covered on the insurance
and definitely dont buy any thing of them unless you're 100% sure
you'll get the goods.

Good luck.

Don't have anything to do with this company. I have just lost £149 by
being gullible and paying it into their account. I have passed all
their details including their phone number and their bank account
number to the police. I am also not going to get my Nintendo Wii for my
son for Christmas. My credit card was also defrauded within hours of
my contacting this company. What is worse is that my son rang them on
Friday and pretended to be a customer and they are still conning
people.
Warn your friends!

Hi,

Looks like im not alone, they also scammed me for £159 for a WII by
asking me to pay direct to their bank which I stupidly did.

Their Tel no is 0700 596 3045

I actually spoke to them on Friday and they said they had just got the
Wii stock in and I would receive today (Monday) alas no Wii.......

I tried calling again but just got the voicemail and left a snooty
message.....

Ambleton Computing only design and upload web pages. That looks like
the reason they are listed as the registrants of the site.

Hi

I've been ripped off too - go to the cops as they are very interested.
There are at least 8 police forces in the country where people have
reoprted a scam (no actual people figures but it's a lot).

We've lost £159 for a non-existant Wii but some have lost a lot more
because I've read reports of people have their cards used for
thousands.

GO TO THE COPS TODAY OTHERWISE THIS S*** WILL GET AWAY SCOT FREE.
DON'T TAKE LONG AND DON'T COST ANYTHING BUT IT MAY COST THE THIEF HIS
HOUSE HIS CAR AND (HOPEFULLY!) HIS LIBERTY.

To anyone who has been conned by AVvillage you may be interested in
this. I was called this evening, Sunday 14th January 2007 at 6-15pm by
no other that Ray from AVvillage. He told me that if I gave him a
credit card number he would refund the money I paid into his bank
account for the goods I never received. I informed him that I had no
credit card because the one I had previously given him had been
cancelled due to fraud. He said he knew nothing about that but he
would like to refund my money and did I have another credit card number
or a bank account debit card number. I asked him to transfer the money
back into my account which he said he was unable to do as the company
does not deal in cash. I asked him why then was he asking people to
pay CASH into his account. He refused an explanation and said that if
I want my money back I have to provide him with a credit card number.
I have told him I will speak to my bank tomorrow and he is supposedly
phoning me back tomorrow evening for a number! I don't think he has
any intentions of giving any money back he is obviously just trying to
gain access to more cards, I can't believe he has the gall to call
people he has already scammed. He obviously believes he is untouchable.
Please let me know if he tries this with you.
