Has anyone managed to download this yet ? - failing that, is the "update" the full version that can be installed over the existing (if any) installation ?

well spotted. this is a great application and you can't beat free. so long as there FTP server speeds up a bit Ill be very happy. Now Norton Ghost's been ruined this is *the* drive imaging program....

I must point out that v8 (IIRC) didn't work on some hardware, so the odds are that v7 will work on less - I have a SATA Dell box that could only be backed up by v9

"Due to widespread exposure of this free Computeractive download within public forums outside of the Computeractive readership, unfortunately we had been forced to temporarily withdraw this promotion due to a) the overwhelming demand placed on our server and b) that this is a closed download for Computeractive readers only."
Technically that would be a bit naughty, although I don't actually need the copy I downloaded and registered... I would be happy to transfer the account to anyone who wanted it :-p (hmm, I wonder if it was transferred from one user to the next on request by simply changing the email address its registered to...)
Register via Acronis themselves though, and download the "update" direct from them - its the same file.

Eh....Could this be pre-planned, an integral part of the whole publicity campaign? After the first, say, 50, downloads, that's it....no more. Now both Acronis and ComputerActive benefit. You and I gain nothing except a bitter taste in the month! !#&*%^"$
It says "temporarily" but then it also says "for ComputerActive readers only"!

I couldn't find it either. Could Colin Wilson confirm that the whole True Image 7 download (not upgrade for True Image 6) is available there?

Go through the account options using the drop-down on the top right of Acronis's site - click on (IIRC) registered programs, and it will list TrueImage v7 - clicking on that in the main window will then let you access the download link for the "update".
The file sizes offered by ComputerActive and Acronis were the same (I eventually got onto the "official" ComputerActive FTP link but it keeled over 13Mb into the download, but I was able to confirm the file sizes for both in that time).

Which link did you click to download True Image 7.0?
I tried different approaches without success. For example, on the My Products page (Home > Account > My Products) these two produced a 16KB text code file, using a download manager or manually onto the desktop. Neither did disabling the Windows own firewall, ZoneAlarm, a pop-up blocker or the ActiveX control make any difference: 1) "Last available update: build #638, 2004-10-01. Get update" and 2) "Download installation file if you lost your copy of the program. (File size: 21.57 MB)"

I used the 'get upate' link and it downloaded and is now installed.
Question - is the product or serial code the same number for everyone?

Yes, clicking "Get update" > "Save target as... " on the shortcut menu worked.(Don't remember what I did last time I tried this which produced the 16KB text file). Using this route doesn't suit me unfortunately because my connection is a dial-up; worse still, this is playing up at the moment (for the last one month, still being investigated!) download speed being 3.7KB/s! I'm downloading the 21.75MB True Image now using this manual route, not with my usual Net Transport. I fear when the NTL download time limit of 2 hours is up (the file needs just under 3 hours to download) the line will be cut and there being no resume function, the whole downloading process will be incomplete and the unfinished file canceled.
Is anybody using the FTP Net Transport (not the regular Net Transpot)? It might be possible that the wrong file I got downloaded using the regular Net Transport was because the file had to be handled with the FTP Net Transport. I don't know how to set this up though. Anyone?
Well, at least the free download offer is always available, not to be limited by ComputerActive till the 17th October!
You_First, the registration serial number of my copy of True Image 7.0 (yet to be downloaded) is: DY6CW-655UW-U3BEP-2RMNM-CXVBM

I downloaded it earlier using FDM and it supports resume, etc.

True Image 7.0 is now in the bag!
The download, install and first run of Free Download Manager went smoothly, so did the download and install of the cloner (1 hr 43 min). For those who might be interested: Free Download Manager http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm
Thanks to everyone who responded.
