AMOK Bookstore opened in 1987 and was immediately recognized as the
most extreme and interesting bookstores in Los Angeles - the keepers
of unpopular and non-politically correct opinions and ideas - focusing
on esoteric and unusual literature. In 1997, the bookstore changed its
name to KOMA Bookstore (AMOK backwards) so that AMOK Books could focus
entirely on publishing.
After 8 years at the Vermont Street location in LA's Los Feliz
neighborhood, the rent was raised and the bookstore was forced to
move. KOMA Bookstore is now operating a small web-site and AMOK Books
is still handling and publishing the most extreme literature possible.
We also have a small office space in downtown Los Angeles for those
who would like to come and browse in person.
AMOK's latest publication, the AMOK FIFTH DISPATCH is a 560 page
listing of over 2000 of the most controversial and thought provoking
books complete with a description of each as well as ordering
information - and pretty much represents AMOK/KOMA's world overview.
The previous AMOK FOURTH DISPATCH went on to sell over 50,000 copies.
