Group says 60 arrested, some hurt in Chicago anti-NATO clashes

Baton-swinging police clashed with anti-war protesters marching on the NATO summit in Chicago on Sunday

More than 60 people were arrested in a melee at the end of a march attended by at least 3,000 people

The confrontation began after a 2 1/2 mile march from a Chicago park to near the site of the summit


Police ordered the protesters to disperse or risk arrest. Most of the demonstrators did, but several hundred ignored the order and police moved in.

Hundreds of demonstrators, reporters and photographers were hemmed in by lines of blue-helmeted police, pushing them back with plastic shields.

One young man sat at the side of the street, the back of his head streaming blood. His friends said he was hit by riot police.

"This is what police brutality looks like,"

said Ryan Zielinski, 23, a protester who said he was hit in the chest with a baton as police pushed protesters back.

"All we're trying to do is protest and the police are attacking us."

Reuters reporters saw at least three protesters with head injuries. Another man was holding his eye, and a girl clutched her stomach.

Demonstrators had little chance of being seen by the world leaders and representatives from 60 countries at the meeting of the [Superpower/NATO] military alliance.

The summit site, the McCormick Place convention center, is inside a security zone guarded by fences. Protesters were kept blocks away from the convention center.

Rising US [Superpower] recession risk poses the real threat to Europe

The Philly Fed’s manufacturing index dropped suddenly to minus 5.8 in May. The US Conference Board’s index of leading indicators fell in April. Job creation has slipped from 250,000 a month to nearer 130,000 in March and April.

The Economic Cycle Research Institute (ECRI) says post-War personal income growth in the US has never been this weak for three months in a row without triggering a recession. It has happened ten out of ten times.

America’s official data has not picked up any inflection point yet. We may be repeating the summer of 2008 when Washington mistakenly reported brisk growth

We now know that the figures were wildly wrong. The economy was already in slump.

The Fed [has now] noted “sizeable risks” as $1 trillion (£633bn) of fiscal cuts kick in automatically at the end of the year.

What are the EU and the [The Superpower's] IMF for if they cannot stop one of their own members spiralling into collapse?

[ But here's the real point... ]

Washington will not lose a NATO member lightly.

MS [Mississippi] prison guard dies, others hurt in 'disturbance'

Corrections Corp. of America, the prison's private operator, was working Sunday night with law-enforcement authorities to bring the disturbance under control.

The 2,567-bed prison houses adult male criminal aliens for the Federal Bureau of Prisons

200 to 300 inmates were causing the [cops'] problems, including lighting a campfire. At one point, flames and smoke were visible from outside the prison. These inmates causing the troubles were not armed with traditional weapons [batons, tear gas, shotguns]

7 enemy troops killed after entering explosives rigged compound
----

Reports from Gerishk district indicate that on later Sunday afternoon at around 04:00 pm, US [Superpower] invaders and their puppets entered a booby trapped compound, located in Sangchali area of Da Adam Kahn region in order to turn it into a check post, triggering the explosives which killed 4 joint enemy and left 3 others severely wounded. The enemy casualties were later airlifted by medical helicopters.
