Thousands march in Frankfurt against austerity measures
----

"We're protesting against the Europe-wide policy of impoverishment by the troika," said a spokeswoman for the 'Blockupy' anti-capitalist movement, who put the number of protesters at 25,000.

The troika refers to European Central Bank, [The Superpower's] International Monetary Fund, and European Union officials who are supervising bailout programs

A court on Monday gave the go-ahead for...Saturday's protest, but ruled against demonstrations taking place on other days.

Several hundred activists were detained earlier in the week for defying that ban.

Quebec passes law in effort to end daily protests
----

Quebec's provincial government passed an emergency law [The State Fink Law] Friday that will shut some universities and impose harsh fines on protesters blocking students from attending classes as the government looks to end three months of demonstrations against tuition hikes.

The law risks inciting students who called it
[>] an act of war [<].

Proposed fines range from $7,000 to $35,000 for a student leader and between $25,000 and $125,000 for unions or student federations if someone
[a State fink]
is prevented from entering an educational institution.

Martine Desjardins, one student leader, called the bill a
"declaration of war against the student movement."

Under the same URL and headline but dated 10:16 PM EDT, AP reports (excerpts):

Hours after the vote thousands of protesters marched in downtown Montreal to condemn the legislation, which students and supporters say limits their ability to demonstrate their disapproval of the fee hikes.

Police officers in riot gear, and others on horseback watched as the loud and energetic crowd made its way downtown, chanting "No special law will break us!"

A number of molotov cocktails were tossed [by State finks] causing police to declare the demonstration illegal. Police used pepper spray and one man was arrested after the crowd got too close to cops. Some people threw objects at a small group of helmeted cops were forced to retreat. The angry crowd followed the retreating cops who then charged back firing tear gas.

The crowd was much larger than the hundreds who gathered Thursday night as the government introduced the bill to quell the most sustained student protests in Canadian history.

Spat with Iraq bares Turk plunge into regional power game
----

"This is about an escalating power struggle in Baghdad combined with the regional conflict between Iran, Turkey and the Gulf Arab states being played out in Syria and Iraq," said Hasan Turunc, a fellow at Oxford University.

***

"Compare it to Turkey's relations with Israel. Turkey and Israel are at odds and there is a lot of public outrage in both countries, however, if you look at economic relations, they are growing," said Oxford University's Turunc.

"Trade and commerce do not necessarily get influenced by the daily political rhetoric and the same can be said for Iraq."

FORMATION OF STATE MONOPOLY CAPITALISM IN THE NEW RUSSIAN EMPIRE

[Putin's] Visit to Central Research Institute Cyclone
----

Today we will analyse the results of one of our biggest state corporations, Rostekhnologii. We will discuss the development plans, above all in the context of our strategic economic modernisation objectives, and the efforts to strengthen our country’s industrial and defence capabilities.

These were among the top priorities we set when the corporation was established. We had to concentrate resources and consolidate assets in order to develop our economy’s high-technology sectors. Let me remind you that we did not nationalise anything, but simply brought together state assets that were in various places and situations, generally lamentable situations, in order to consolidate them and get them back into the needed condition. As for what to do with them from here, I will speak about this later.

***

In conclusion (last but not least – perhaps this point is the most important), when we created Rostekhnologii – I had said at the time and I’m sure you remember it, as I said at the beginning – we gathered the scattered assets that still remained in the hands of the state with the goal of restoring production and reinstating expertise, but we agreed from the very beginning that this would remain fluid.

We should bring these companies to order, turn them into joint stock companies, transform them into state enterprises where necessary, for example, and in other cases, to offer their shares to the market and privatise them where possible. I want Rostekhnologii executives to submit a corresponding plan in this regard.

In terms of accumulating the assets, a great deal of work has been done, but I have yet to see suggestions on continued work, on the development of the corporation. And I will ask the Government of the Russian Federation, which will be fully formed next week, as well as the Presidential Executive Office, to assist you in this work.

We cannot sit on these assets; the state was not going to hold on to them indefinitely. Definitely, it should be done carefully, ensuring that it is beneficial for the state, including fiscally, financially beneficial, but we are to launch sustainable production operations, holdings, production chains and so on. Overall, you understand what I mean. Please draw up suggestions over the next three to four weeks and present them to me.

Supreme Leader Meets with War Veterans
----

Ayatollah Khamenei added: "Today we are faced with two enemies: one is the evil arrogant powers [The Superpower/NATO] and other is our inner selves.

If we manage to move forward and make decisions while observing piety, the ground will be prepared for spiritual transcendence and material progress."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that avoiding sins is a requirement for transcendence, further adding: "By avoiding sins, half the path will be traversed.

Of course, the sins of those who shoulder political, executive, managerial, public relations and religious responsibilities have far more dimensions."

His Eminence said that appropriate actions by government officials will bring about calm for society.

"Through resistance and appropriate actions, we can give encouragement to our society and of course we should know that this movement of the Iranian nation will not falter and it will not be derailed because of the tiredness and impatience of certain individuals."

At the end of his statements, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution added [alluding to the recent elections in Iran]: "The path that was started by the Islamic Revolution will continue and you saw that those who failed to carry the burden of their responsibilities during the popular movement by the Iranian nation were immediately replaced by motivated youth. And by Allah's favor, these youth will carry out the responsibilities."
