After Oswald's murder, a warning letter was allegedly sent out to
every member of the Minutemen organization with expediency and also
with secrecy. A copy of the letter surfaced thanks to an undercover
agent who had infiltrated the group and was on their mailing list.
The letter, addressed to its members, said:
"Dear Patriot,
The Minutemen organization is now the object of an intensive
investigation. Apparently, this is part of the announced plan of the
Warren Commission to investigate 'possible connections' between the
radical right and the assassination of President Kennedy. All real
patriots will recognize that such an implication is without
foundation. If Robert Kennedy had spent as much time investigating the
Communist-Socialist movement as he did worrying about the pro-American
movement, then his brother would probably still be alive.
This will not prevent the conspiracy through the use of the controlled
news media from trying to give the impression that the right wing is
somehow to blame for John Kennedy's death.
This is an extremely serious situation.
Most of our members will already be familiar with the fact that Earl
Warren has voted to favor the Communists in almost every case
involving this nation's internal security that has come before the
Supreme Court since he has been a member of that body. Most, too, will
be aware that when Earl Warren first heard of Kennedy's death, he
immediately issued a statement blaming the assassination on 'right
wing' fanatics. In fact, the investigating committee was set up just
three days after the Communist newspaper, THE WORKER, made a
suggestion to that fact. THE WORKER also suggested that Earl Warren be
made head of a committee exactly as has occurred. Nicholas Katzenbach,
who was in charge of the Fedral marshalls at Oxford, Misssissippi, has
been named chief investigator for the Warren Commission.
J.Lee Rankin, general counsel for the Warren Commission, in a recent
letter to Congressman Henry B. Gonzales (of Texas) stated: 'I assure
you that any relationship between the Minutemen and the assassination
of President Kennedy will be carefully explored.'
Many, (perhaps all) major FBI offices have received identical memos
from Washington to investigate Minutemen activities in their areas.
Treasury agents are making a special effort to determine the existence
of any AUTOMATIC weapons (author's emphasis) that might be owned by
members of this organization. From several cities, we have received
reports of postal employees being assigned the special task of listing
name and addresses of persons who receive mail from the John Birch
Society and other anti-Communist organizations.
There is considerable evidence to indicate that a nationwide
propaganda campaign to blame President Kennedy's death on the right
wing had been organized before the assassination. If it had not been
for the very good fortune that Oswald was quickly captured and
identified as being a Communist, it is probbable that hundreds of
American patriots would be behind bars today.
We are now witnessing the gradual take-over of our government by
hidden Communists to such an extent that loyal Americans are being
subjected to 'investigation' harrassment and economic persecution.
THE TIME IS PAST WHEN THE COMMUNIST-SOCIALIST MOVEMENT CAN BE
SUCCESSFULLY OPPOSED BY ORGANIZATIONS THAT OPERATE IN THE OPEN.
sUCCESSFUL OPPOSITION TO THE COMMUNIST-SOCIALIST MOVEMENT NOW REQUIRES
THE SECRET METHODS OF A PATRIOTIC RESISTENCE MOVEMENT.
We realize that many patriots will not give up the hope of winning by
political means, but we must remind our members again that there are
many people willing to work politically and only a few who will now
begin to build the final line of defense.
Although most individual agents of the FBI are loyal Americans of the
highest type, we must constantly keep in mind that any information
they obtain about us will be sitting in their files when the
Communists take over and will certainly be used against us.
If you are questioned as to whether or not you are a member of this
organization, we advise you to deny it absolutely. Keep your mind on
the fact that they cannot prove you are a member. Such information
will NEVER be given out by the National/Regional Headquarters. Our
files are kept in such a manner that they cannot be seen under any
circumstances. If you are confronted with evidence indicating
membership of the Minutemen, say that you did inquire, have received
literature from us, and possibly even subscribed to our newsletter
simply because you are an open-minded person who likes to see both
sides of every question, but you did not join.
In making contact with our members, we are faced with increasing costs
due to the necessity of sending all mail first class and from many
different post offices. We need continued financial support of every
member if we are to operate in a secure and efficient manner. Enclosed
is a special sheet of practical suggestions regarding security
measures, which we recommend to all members to follow.
Now is the time for each of us to determine whether or not we have the
strength and courage of our forefathers. Are we made of the same mold
as those Americans who pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their
sacred honor to the cause of freedom ?"
