Tybo is deeded property the last time I checked., so technically you
are trespassing if you go there.

I hate to start rumors, that is, I try to keep things as factual as
possible. But here goes. At one time, they had cameras at Base Camp
pointing up the road to Tybo. On one of my visits to Base Camp, I got
a greeting by security. OK, on most visits I get a greeting by
security. ;-) So I was photographing the cameras, and security tells
me specifically not to go to Tybo. They say it is private property. I
happened to know this is true since I spent time with the recorders
office back at Tonopah. I guess they had a patented mine claim. I
drove to the border of Tybo and didn't see anything happening.

Now eventually those cameras were removed. Who the hell puts up
security cameras then takes them down? The government rather let stuff
rot than pay to take it down, especially since it would cost nothing
to leave the cameras there, while they would have to pay someone to
take the gear down.

Now on another visit, the person I was with wanted to drive to Tybo. I
made it clear I wasn't crossing the border, and we didn't. However, I
noticed the warning sign was bent over. Pushing the sign up, I saw it
had a federal style no trespassing sign on it, similar to the illegal
sign they have on the road to Haligan Mesa. [The illegality of that
sign was pointed out by Glenn Campbell, and I also verified this with
the recorders office. Tonopah has the nicest government workers you
will ever meet. BLM, county, sheriff. Really great.]

So my theory is Tybo was being used by the feds for some period of
time. What exactly they were doing there, I don't know. Illegal prison
for rendition? I wouldn't put it past the Bushies, but I have no
evidence. In the book "Hubris", it is revealed that prior to the
invasion of Iraq (Operation Iraqi Liberation), the CIA illegally
brought Iraqi nationals to the NTS for training. They were called the
Desert Scorpions. But the NTS is not Tybo.

Not on my website, though I guess I should link it, is a photo I took
of a McChord C-17 taking off at KDRA. I lost track of when the
photograph was taken, so I don't know if it was in the time frame of
the Desert Scorpions.

This was the same day the helicopter was playing cat and mouse games
with me, ducking behind canyons to stay out of sight. I have a photo
of it somewhere on the website.

I'd have to reread that part of Hubris to recall the exact plan for
the Desert Scorpions. I do recall the operation was scrapped.

why should a military outfit be so worried that you will go to non
military old mine site,yes I wonder.
Not been that way for a while but last time might have been on a
weekend,place seemed deserted not a soul around.Up at the barrier just
a sign saying some mining co,Private posted.Far as I can remember.
Did notice large power lines going into the canyon.
Might try the basecamp office next time in the week & ask them if it's
now ok to go up there.

I'm trying to recall if there is any place to knock on the door these
days at Base Camp. Anyway, the cameras are gone, so whatever was
there isn't there any more.

Now the redundancy of no trespassing signs is silly. However, I can
visualize every sign was put up because the boss said so, and if you
returned with the sign he gave you, well the boss would think you
didn't go there and do the posting.

Maybe throw some seismic into the mix. Not enough to knock down a
wall, but degrade it a bit to allow the elements to do their job.

BTW, they had a large earthquake in Trona, and for sure I thought the
sky quake crowd would be firing up the rumor mill, but they all joined
the underground base fraternity.

The Beech Janets land at Trona once in a while.
