At this point in time, there are no warning signs left at Road Block
Canyon. The orange poles are still there, but the last sign is gone.
At one time there were two signs there.

But what is really interesting is the electronic surveillance gear on
the hill is gone. I don't believe I ever bothered to photograph the
sensors, but IIRC, DLR has a shot provided by Chuck Clark.

http://www.lazygranch.com/rbc.htm

I'm guessing the base thinks the new pan/tilt/zoom camera is good
enough to watch the area, or perhaps there is more sophisticated
surveillance gear in place that made the EMIDS obsolete. No dudes
showed up on Monday when we were at the border of Road Block Canyon.

I forgot to mention regarding Road Block Canyon. I noticed
considerable tire tracks at
N37 20 17.8 W115 35 56.5
It is a turn off I never took, but worthy of investigation.

Any sign of that "Nev Dept of IT" tower that's licensed
to be just 1000 yards NW of that intersection?

Nope. Another inspirational versus operational installation. I was
given a link to a spot on radioreference.com that indicates the
Tempiute site is in actuality Mt. Irish.

Nothing has shown up on that hill a bit north of Queen City Summit
where they cut a nice dirt road.

The only new NDOT I've seen is the Warm Springs installation.

Totally unrelated, but I'm told one of the roads near the Old Groom
Road Bypass or whatever they call the road to Road Block Canyon has
one of those wells for Vegas to steal water. I saw a few trucks with
large blue pipe on 93, though I don't know if it is for the water
stealing project. [Jim Gibbons duped all these rural votes to help him
get elected to governor, then promptly screwed them over by stealing
the central Nevada water. Gibbons is the kind of person where if you
shake his hand, you need to count your fingers afterwards.]

Of very minor interest is that seismic sensor along the road to
Tikaboo is gone. That seemed to be a lot of work for naught! Perhaps
there was too much road traffic causing false readings.

Back to comm sites, I got an email from the BLM that they want to use
my photos of the Mt. Brock comm site. Baffling since they have fine
photos of the site themselves, but whatever. The BLM has generally
been nice to me any time I dealt with them, so I let them have the
images. [I'm not too thrilled about their wild horse rules, but I
suspect somebody else is calling the shots.]

Explain further, please?
What are the horse rules you don't like?

That sensor installation was only intended to be in place for a couple
of years. When it first appeared, there was a discussion on DLR and
some links posted. It's some sort of government project to map the
Earth's crust using an array of seismometer stations that form a north-
south line vertically across the US. Every few years they move the
line eastward. Sort of like an Earth CAT scan. Or they're hunting
for underground alien bases.

Basically, the BLM rather pen up the horses than let them graze on BLM
property. I recall seeing a promo on KLAS TV that George was going to
do a special on this, but haven't checked the KLAS website. That KLAS
video is a bugger to run on 64 bit windows or linux. I understand they
want to make the video hard to steal, but I'm certain KLAS video can
be swiped since the Area 51 stuff shows up on youtube eventually.

I suppose the similar set up near the TTR has been moved too. I don't
have any photos of it since I never saw the gear, but got a report
from a reliable source that saw it.

What's their reasoning for penning
them up vs free ranging them?

I think the term is AGU (agricultural unit). You pay so much for each
AGU, but it's really peanuts. However, the people making money off the
land sure don't want horses on it. Not that Medlin or Falini are
raking in the dough.

Yes. The ranchers lease the land. Now how exactly this works would be
a bit of research. I can't believe the lease goes up to bid yearly
since the ranchers have put in infrastructure (fences and water). I
have to assume the BLM has also allowed them to buy some land outright
for their homes.

OK, make that AUM rather than AGU.

The contracts should be public knowledge since they go out to bid
periodically. Maybe the AGU is for growing alfalfa. I know I heard the
term someplace.

So where are the pens for the horses?
Outside the border?

Are the horses still free range on the
"horse reserve" or whatever it's called
that's inside the test range/bomb range/A51 border?

I'm amazed at whatever relationship there is between
Medlin and the base. The base can take land as they
see the need yet they still can't take away the
grazing rights for Steve's cattle?

The horses roam freely on the range. I gather they stay in a general
area since they know where to find water. I've seen wild horses
around the TTR, Cold Creek, Delamar, and north of highway 6.

Someone I know got to ride with Steve Medlin to Bald Mountain, though
I don't recall if the border was crosses. Steve had a radio to notify
the base of his presence. The person along for the ride didn't note
much about the radio other than it was old looking. I would guess the
base gave Steve some simple FM radio and have a repeater just for his
use. I can't see the base giving him a MRK, with out wothout
encryption.

It may be the BLM wants to protect their turf, which is why Steve
Medlin gets to go on the range. Or he has a contract with the BLM and
the BLM wants to honor the contract.

It looks like Steve owns his homesite.

There are plenty of hits on government websites for Steve. Here is one
regarding water in the Tikapoo (sic) Valley:

Steve and his Area 51 cows are interesting. Last weekend at the
warning signs there was a giant cow poop right near the border. I
wonder how many cows go past the warning signs and have to be rescued
and debriefed by our government!

Interesting how so many seemingly non-related "persons or entities"
are in protest of the Tikaboo water thing -

US Natl Pk Svc
Inyo County
Pahrump
etc

What's that old saying?
"Who ever has the water, rules the world"

Must be one huge pool of water under the range.

I stopped reading at XXI.
But it looks like all the protests were dismissed
for lack of evidence.

Last I heard, the pump station was now just an iron cap.
Perhaps that was just a test well and not the (one of the)
locations of the final pump stations?

I would have guessed that in BLM vs USAF,
the Air Force would prevail.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know -
When Norio and the others had the "near miss" with
the Alamo contractor driving into the range on GLR, the
story goes that the BLM ranger was there and witnessed
the event, or maybe was nearly hit himself.

Did the Federal officer pursue the offender over the
border? Does the "hot pursuit" doctrine apply in this
case (a likely misdemeanor federal offense).

I've been to a few border events and the ranger just shows up to see
the set-up and leaves. The guy has a ridiculous territory to cover.
You can catch him once in a while eating at the Windmill Ridge. He
probably shows up when he thinks the event is over to insure nobody
chopped down a Joshua tree or left a camp fire smoldering, but I don't
know this for a fact. [I did hear him say not to chop down any Joshua
trees. I suspect that is so you don't find the hidden electronics in
the rigged trees. ;-)]

I've seen the sheriff cross the border. Though it's obvious a sheriff
vehicle is OK to cross the border, the dudes seem to know which cars
they should let drive up to the gate and which cars to intercept. All
sorts of contract vehicles reach the front gate without the dudes
getting antsy. Either they have a schedule and description of the
vehicles, or some electronic pass scheme is used.

Steve can get cows beyond the border. The cattle have been hit with
the wacky beam, so they don't need to be debriefed.

I'd like to be around when they do the helicopter round-up. I'm sure
the chopper can see the base. The only time I saw the chopper, it was
one of those Robinson toy choppers. They trucked it in, probably to
keep the total hours down. I hear a Robinson is so expensive to
maintain that you nearly buy a new one when doing the mandatory
service.
