With some effort, I tracked down the manuals on the road sensors. They
broadcast their "health" periodically, so unplugging the power will
simply alert the base that the sensor is not reporting it's condition.
The sensor also can detect if it is tilted, so any stolen transmitter
will cry for help.
I guess you can't depend on Glen Campbell for technical accuracy.

On the second Vid, Lazar is a fraud. McCarran is the municipal airport for
Las Vegas, it is not an Air Force Base. The Janets, which fly out of
McCarran, are nothing more than shuttles to carry workers to and from Groom
Lake.

Well, things didn't go so well for Chuck Clarke. ;-) However, I think
Chuck didn't have the money to fight the feds.
They accused Chuck of stealing a sensor. Now if that were true, it
would be a crime. However, I really don't think Chuck would steal a
sensor. It is not in his character.
There is also the notion of "attractive nuisance." The sensors are out
there with no protection. They attract people to fiddle with them.

For the record, I have never tampered with any road sensor, just noted
them, published their locations, pointed them out to TV crews, etc.
Part of my mantra was never to break the law so the authorities would
never have anything to get me on. I was informally studying the law at
the time. I'd go right up to the line (whatever that legal line was)
but never cross it.
It was always much more amusing to me to know where the sensors were
(and complain to the BLM about them) than to steal them -- which is
the sort of thing dim-witted thing Chuckie would have done.
BTW: Chuckie's a moron -- and I mean that affectionately.
Steve Douglass, in a memorable anti-Campbell rant on Dreamland Resort,
has accused me of sending him a road sensor, but I really don't recall
doing so. Call it convenient amnesia, but it doesn't sound like
something I would have done. I think he is confusing me with someone
else.
Anyway, Steve Douglass is old and fat and smells of cod liver oil.
Have you heard of trainspotters? They are those male geeks who think
it is just so thrilling to hang around train yards and collect the
numbers of the engines passing through. That's what we have here:
numbers geeks who have nothing better to do with their lives but
collect reams of useless military data... tail numbers, frequencies,
call signs. I was one of them once, so I understand the seduction, but
you got to get a life sooner or later.

Well, I looked at the first video (the silent version, since I have an
audio problem). Man, that's old! (circa 1994?) I hardly recognize the
guy in the video. I don't think I've ever seen this video before. (I
didn't see half the shows I was involved in.)

And how would one know it is federal property? It has been left on
public land without any identifying markings (and without BLM
permission).
The whole concept of "I" is also subject to debate. Is that really me
in the video, or an earlier occupant of my body? (14 years can change
an occupant.)

That was basically my point - you disable it. I think a court would see
that as tempering.
Yes, you make a fair point, how do we know its federal property, apart from
you inferring it is. Not only that, I'm sure the people who put it there
have records to substantiate its ownership. Give the authorities any edge
to have a go at you and one day they just might call it in.
Don't get me wrong Glenn, I'm not having a go at you in any way - it's your
arse on the line. I'd have pulled out the power plug too - just not on
film.

Pulling the sensor would be an open circuit, and immediately call
attention to the alarm. Tamper is the tilt-switch sensor.Test is the
"state of health" message. Now ET phones home at most only once an
hour, so I suppose unplugging the power might buy you some time.
The next generation (EMIDS) can use two sensors per transmitter. This
can be used to detect direction of travel.

This is Lincoln County. You have no rights.
I got a speeding ticket in Lincoln County. I made enough noise that I
cut a deal with the DA who switched the ticket to a non-moving
violation. I am now on the Lincoln County permanent shit-list for
outfoxing them. Well, maybe I was on it already, but now I moved up a
bit. I avoid the Chevron station.
The late Bill Wifflen got a ticket for not coming to a complete stop
as he pulled onto the ET Highway. Hey, that's a busy road. It's not
like you can see vehicles miles away.
While I'm on the subject, I found out the Nye County Sheriff
Department runs the plates of vehicles parked at motels, at least out
of state plates. Who knows where the data goes.

That is very, very common for LEA's everywhere.
There's tons more people that have warrants than
you might expect. Hot checks is usually the biggest
category of outstanding warrants. One of the primary
jobs of the sheriff in any county in the US is to
serve warrants. People that have arrest warrants
drive. I guarantee more big arrests in anywhere
USA are begun by a simple traffic stop, or a
patrol cop running the 28.

Car stop checks I get. (I have a scanner). Running every plate does
seem a bit extreme.
You know the base can run plates. I won't mention the guys name, but
he was hanging around the back gate. The guard comes out of the shack
with phone in hand and says " "*****, It's for you!", where ****** is
the guys name.
The car stops that amaze me are the ones done in Richmond, Ca., a
pretty rough town. The cop reads the plate and says he is code-4. You
run the plate before talking to the sucker in the car, so how the hell
does he know he is code-4?

I know you've got an edge for cops. It's
rare to find someone that doesn't. It's
a tough job. NOBODY is happy to see you.
EVERYONE you come in contact with is getting
a ticket, arrested, served with a notice,
notified their kid was killed in a crash etc.
