I believe I have the ability to sense soul (or spirit).

I propose a test of this ability. A closed box either
containing a human or containing nothing could be placed
in front of me (or the human or nothing could be behind
a closed door) and I should be able to detect which is
which reliably over a number of cases.

For now I will start testing the ability a bit on my
own and only if I am then confident I reliably and
consistently have the ability will I try to set up
the above test.

If the ability is proven I hope to determine with the
help of volunteer pregnant women when a fetus comes
to have a fully human soul and whether this occurs
gradually or (as I think) suddenly.

What you're doing is very similar to people who claim to be able to
see (or otherwise sense) an aura. Here's one that James Randi did,

I don't yet claim to be able to distinguish one person
from another by their soul.

Years ago I went through a period when I saw coloured
auras around people but these were much closer to
the body than what I now call soul or spirit

But thanks Tom for that interesting video link and
indeed a similar setup could be used to test me
only with the places either having a human in
them or being empty.

But again I haven't yet demonstrated to myself that
I have this ability for sure, and I want to make
some tests on my own before I subject myself to
any scientific test.

How will you determine that your threshold for detection is a fully
human soul, and not a partial one?

How would the outcome of the experiment be expected to differ if the
aquisition of a soul is gradual rather than sudden?

Sylvia.

Pregnant women, fetuses, souls. Sorry, I don't know what I was

You're absolutely right. My bad. Sorry for sticking my virtual nose
where it doesn't belong. In my own defense though I would hasten to
add slowly that at least one can't get pregnant from my appearing nosy
with respect to women's privates issues and whatnot. Angel likes my
private nosings. So you know, we will be closing in on ending this.

Yup. Been proven to not work.
Any time wasted on this will never be regained

Well, I expect there to be a sudden jump to a fully
human soul, as big and strong as the mother's,
but I could be wrong, and if so hope to be able
to detect that.

The experiment would involve regular checks, ideally even
every day, from conception on, and if the acquisition
is gradual I should be able to detect that.

Well, if a woman chooses to exercise control over her
own body and have an abortion then it can be a
releasing and empowering choice for her, and I
think if a fetus with a fully human soul is killed
then the soul will be swiftly reincarnated, not
lost to any supposed hellfire.

Well, that should make the test even easier. All you have to do is
show that you can tell when a person is or is not behind some
partition significantly better than half the time. The tricky part is
to arrange things so that you don't get any secondary clues, such as
shadows or noises that might tip yo0u off, even subconsciously.

Make your own tests as scientific as you know how.

I wouldn't go so far as to declare it "proven", but the results of
responsibly done experiments surely weigh heavier on the side of that
interpretation. At least so far.

Another interesting experiment was conducted by Linda and Emily Rosa
and published in the Journal of the Amarican Medical Association,
which examined the claim of therapeutic touch practitioners that they
were able to detect the presence or absence of a living hand by
sensing its "human energy field". This seems very close to what David
wishes to test. Perhaps he could use this model.

The same could be said of reading these posts.

It's pure speculation. You may be completely insensitive to souls until
they reach some threshold, after which you feel them in the same way as
you feel the soul of an adult.

Essentially, you have two unknowns, one being whether or not souls
arrive gradually, and the other being whether or not your sensitivity is
all or nothing. Before you can reach any conclusions, you need to be
able to separate those variables. Good luck with that.

It's been proven that in a particular case, it didn't work, and if we
assume that the subject believed that it did work prior to the
experiment, we have at least one example of someone who was deluding
themselves about this.

I'm strongly inclined to the view that the latter is true of the OP, but
it hasn't yet been proved.

Sylvia.
