¿Free online virus scan?

reason it's giving me problems with this computer. I tried
RegCure which dishonestly encourages people to believe
it will help you for free, but after detecting 1300+ problems
it says it will only fix 8 of them unless you "register". When
you go to register you find that you have to pay $35 to get
the "free" program to do what they dishonestly encouraged
you to believe it would do for free. Can anyone suggest some
programs that actually are free without the dishonesty, and
will also work.

I've used AVG anti virus free for years and had no problems. Download and
install it on your computer.

In my experience with some malware that hogged CPU time, the paid
edition of Norton didn't even detect anything, while the free version
of AVG detected it but couldn't remove it, a free online scan with Bit
Defender removed one of the two malwares, and SmithFraudFix, also
free, finally eliminated the problem.

I have limited experience with free virus scan software, but all of the
experience is bad. My brother in law clicked on an offer for a free scan,
and then got a popup box every 5 ~ 7 minutes saying that he had a high risk.
I eventually discovered that there was a pointer to an invalid file and I
was able to clean the Registry of the entries that called that filename. My
Dad uses(used) Avast, and had a similar kind of problem.
I have used both Norton and McAfee (not at the same time) and had a horrible
experience trying to remove them. My thought on both of these products is
that they are dangerously close to being the kinds of files that one might
want the program to detect and remove. In other words, I found them to be
almost virual in nature. It's a sad day when we seek to pay for a virus to
remove another virus.
Virus -- security -- software is a very difficult subject.

SmitFraud does the same slimy trick of getting you to waste the
download time, setting up the program, running the scan, finding
problems (less than half of what the first trick claimed to have
found), and then they tell you it's $40 to fix it.

The download was only 1.2 megs, the program finished quickly, I
haven't been contacted by the company since (it's been about a year
since I ran it), and the person who recommended the program (forum of
a computer security website) didn't seem to be selling it.
