First please bear with me to explain my logic...
I noted with some concern a question raised by another (potentially)
infected user about his problems that may or may not be the result of his
Grandaughters time spent on the web..excuse me not being able to recall the
exact post.
It kind of got me to thinking of my own children,I have always maintained
I'm a good and responsible parent but it would seem from my own admissions
that may not be the case. That particular post conjoured an image of a
tearful young girl looking at her grandfathers obvious distress at not
having access to his PC and being quite open as a virus writer I must share
some of the responsibility for that.NO it could not be one of my creations
but I have often posted here in defence of what VX do and claiming that "it
is my right to pursue my hobby".Yes I still maintain it is my right but not
at the expense of a young child.....
Another point that struck a nerve was Randys comment about the potential for
say a Federal computer to be shut down allowing a Child abuser to escape
justice and the sentance they rightly deserve.....again my rights are of
little importance compared to the rights of the potentially abused child....
I believe Randy also raised a point about provocation...Yes I accept that
provocation will not be the only reason for writing a virus but it sure as
hell wont do much to dissuade an author from writing destructive code.....
Up until a short while ago I didnt normally post to news groups as I found
them to be boring and places of little interest, then one day I had little to
do and was relaxing so decided to check out ACV.First thing I noticed was
the Flames from Nick and his ilk, that didn't impress me and had little
effect on my interest in Viruses, then there were the more interesting posts
from Randy,Bill,Kurt ...they provided a forum for me to discuss my reasons
and interests and were stimulating to say the least. Then finally the posts
that started to get my attention were from the pleading users of infected
PC's....I dont mean them any harm, but it would seem that my general interest
is causing them a degree of distress that I can no longer justify to myself.
So what am I prepared to do about it???
Well first off NO MORE viral code..I'll still continue to program as I enjoy
it immensely but Viruses for me now come at a price that I'm not prepared to
pay,no it's not a cop out because i'm afraid/scared/give a shit about what
Nick thinks,it's a simple personel decision based on facts.
I' gonna stay away from the IRC scene as even that has become tedious with
all the "I need a virus to fuck over my ex-girlfriend" requests that seem to
arrive daily and the never ending influx of the "I wanna get famous and
infect the planet" kind of morons
I'm also finnished with the Virus side of Ultimate Chaos which may mean that
I end up leaving the team alltogether, time will tell.
Before I sign off I would like to say a few words to some people here and
others that just monitor ACV...
RaiD ..We disagree over some things but in general you have been a good
friend and an intelligent debater, thanx for the help and advice and it's
been a pleasure to talk with you on IRC where we havent had the constant
bullshit interuptions from some people..=]
Randy.. another person who I respect greatly and have enjoyed our debates
..lemme know when you come up with a good nickname..=]=]
Kurt..Thank you for having the common decency to accept that we are not all
the same and showing the good manners to reply in a friendly manner to my
posts..
Spanska..Thanx for prioviding some great points and the chance to show that
not all VX are genericly Evil..
Nick..you are a self opinionated prick..your legal and personel threats
bridge on "Incitement" under current UK law.You rave at anybody that does
not agree with you no matter what side they support and your constant spiel
of bullshit and hatred shows to be small minded and a bigot to boot.Grow up
and resonate some intelligence..you are not God and are never likely to
be.Try to use some of your obvious intelligence to debate in place of rant
and rave you may find you enjoy it a whole lot more. The excuse that "you'e
seen what viruses do" and thats why you speak with such vitriol..you've seen
shit Mr..In 13 years I've seen things that would put a spineless wimp like
you on his knees in tears.
To all VXers in general..thank you for accepting me into the community and
helping me without price.I hope you will understand my reasons for
going.Unlike StormBringer I would NOT ever turn on my own people and will
do all I can to preserve your annonimity and security.Good luck with all you
do and stay safe...
Thats about it for PaX...

Umm... We're talking about viruses here, guy... You must be a real pansy to think that a virus is going to make someone cry. Get a

You spoke from your ass when you posted this right? You don't know
anything about Pax, yet your in a position to suggest he should get a
life? heh, I hope one of my viruses (since he never released his, and
wouldn't be in agreement of my suggestion anyway) lands on you. In
fact, I hope it's termite. (Since it's the only virus I've written that
will make an effort to trim your hard disk for you).
Assholes like you deserve only the finest fucking over a person can
give.

I think this is more demonstrative of being a good parent. You came into a
forum and evaluated information from both sides. You ended up making a sound
and compassionate decision. I think the world needs more parents who can do
this to teach their children.

I believe this is a sound risk/benefit ratio assessment. I hope many others
will reach the same decision before the risk/benefit ratio is deemed to be
worth giving up legal rights for by too many. At that point we have
legislation that will be aimed at stopping the creation of viruses, but will
almost certainly lead to other less desirable effects.

Damn, I was just about to try to provoke you out of writing viruses :)

You'll need to stick around a while for that. It takes a while to get to
know someone's character enough to personalize a nickname!
> Spanska..Thanx for prioviding some great points and the chance to show

Yeah, Spanska is a brand name of evil, not a generic label :)

You seem to have some priorities or something off kilter here. You have this
venom for Nick, who despite having strong words and opinions has not invaded
other people's PCs, but relatively nice words for Raid, who maintains a site
with information exhorting people to invade other people's privacy, and who
continues to be an exponent of the abuse of other people's property.
Personally, I think your anger is either misplaced, or disproportionate at
the least.
Well, until next discussion...
Best Regards,
Randy

Obviously you're not one of those people who come to this NG looking
for help. I didn't know about it last Valentine's Day, but I sure could
have used the help then. As it turned out, it was Happy99.exe and
therefore fairly easy to get rid of. Now I say "fairly" because I'm a
new, self-taught user. And actually, although I wasn't quite reduced to
tears, I did get an enormous headache, and Happy ended up taking 2 days
to get rid of. I, being so ignorant at the time, ended up dl'ing two
different AVs and got myself "locked out" of my machine. Eventually, I
found a web site that guided me through the steps.
You know, I think it was George that commented several months ago that
everyone has their own specialty. Obviously, mine is not computers
although I am continually trying to learn about them because I enjoy
it. Mine is
dogs. I work with them. Yet, I would never make fun of someone who asked
"How do I get my dog to ...?" even when the obvious answer is "Obedience
school."
I, personally, appreciate that Pax (Dalton) has realized the harm he
might have been doing. Maybe now he'll decide to try to help.

P.S. The original post has not arrived on my newsserver, so
if someone thinks it "odd" I have not responded, don't bother
insulting us with one of your ignorant suppositions as to why
I may not have replied yet.

Nick,
I've given you 3 days or so now to decide which DoS attack's you'd
prefer; You have not posted your decision. I'm giving you until
tomorrow, then I'll decide for you if I don't here from you between now
and then. You challenged me to write a virus designed to attack virus
bulletin; And I've accepted.
> ....as assholes like you would know.
Nah Nick,
You haven't seen asshole yet.
Your PS is amusing, Suffering from split personality disorder nick?

You better give Nick your phone number, then. E-mail and usenet can't
be trusted to deliver messages within a given time limit.

I'm pretty sure none of the participants or lurkers in here would like
to see yours...

Ha ha - My favorite was in Pax announce his leaving and a common punk
gots to throw rocks at his back.
Who'd have thought an AV group to be so entertaining?
Just a quick point ...
I was not infact refering to viruses or any form of Electronic enigmas,I was
in point of fact thinking of my former employment and some of the horrors it
has left me with. The sight of even one child gunned down by a madman is
enough to leave any right minded person wth nightmares...now try to imagine
14..I assure you it is more than enough to reduce the most hardened man to
tears.....

You have my support and respect, buddy.

I have no idea what you are talking about here. Were you
relying on Usenet to get something "important" to me?
Duh!
You have clearly made a threat and transmitted it
"telephonically". You should check some of your beloved
"freedoms" Raid, because you find that your government
removed that one from you a very long time ago. I
believe that act is a federal offense, regardless of
whether you follow through with the actual threatened
action or not.

When? Specifics please...
I never did, and never would, make such a "challenge".
