Palm M505 vs Sony CLIE PEG-N710C/G

Any one had a problem choosing betwen the two.

Which to go for? Sony has better resolution compared to Palm.

Also Sony has MP3 support.

M505 cost $826 vs CLIE $799

personally i chose the 710.

In the states M505 is $449 and the Np710 is $500.

I compared the two side by side and the Sony has definitely got a much
brighter display. The Sony also has a jog dial which might be handy.
Sony also comes with a 8mb memory stick while the M505 comes with a
fake mmc card. Sony is slightly thicker, but thats due to the
internal MP3 player. The M505 seems to be built a little more solid
and fits in your hand better. The Sony comes with OS3.5 while the
m505 comes with OS 4. I believe both are flashable however.

I compared the two after I already had the M505, I love my M505, but I
feel that the Sony is probably a little better value. I would be
interested to hear what the Sony's internal speaker sounds like, the
m505 is piezoelectric which can't reproduce DTMF tones.

I find the jog dial, in conjunction with the "back" button underneath it on
the side of the Clie, very handy. Both are programmable, BTW. Many of my
most-used applications can be operated one-handed if necessary. The
internal speaker of the Clie does only what the m505's does, though. Just
basic tones. MP3 music (and other audio) can be heard through the headphone
jack only.

Funny, I find that the SONY fits in my hand better. Less wide, more tapered
in depth. To each his own. I don't believe that the extra depth is solely
for the MP3 player, though.

I believe the depth of the unit is used to help generate the much brighter
screen rather than to accommodate the MP3 player (this is just my
impression). I believe that the soon-to-be-released 610 will have the same
dimensions as the 710 but it does NOT have the MP3 player.

After five Palms I'm a big fan of the Clie 710 and, based on my month of
constant use, recommend it heartily.

The Sony 710 can run programs off the memory sticks but only with 3rd party
software. I use Power Run and I love it! I transfered all my programs to a
32MB Memory Stick and it works great. The programs load very fast.

I'm also using Afterburner Hack and clocking 322% on the Benchmark program.

Sony will also be releasing a OS4.0 upgrade soon that will allow the 710 to
get 16 bit resolution.

I was debating between the m505 and the 710 and I'm VERY happy with the 710.

That is indeed an issue if you write on it a lot. But if you write on it a
lot, I guess people will buy a keyboard. I think the spongy feeling of the
screen is not as a big issue as the dull and dark and much lower resolution
screen of m505.

BTW, the screen of the N710C is very beautiful, especially if you have high
resolution apps, man can't swith back to 160*160.

The feel of the screen hasn't bothered me at all. Yes, it feels a little
spongy compared to my old Vx. Different but not worse. And the Graffiti
works just as well, as do every touch sensitive application I've used. I
constantly write notes, calendar entries and other written input and I never
use a keyboard (I had one for my Vx and ended up not using it so I didn't
get one for my Clie). No complaints about the feel of the screen.

Yeah, I've seen them both, and I've played briefly with a demo of each.
That's how I know about the slightly spongy feel to the N710C.

Since the included photo album app is apparently designed to directly
read Cybershot jpegs, I'm planning on using it (most likely the 610C)
in conjunction with my Sony digicam. The Clie is a lot more visible in
daylight than the display on the back of my camera.
