Handspring Visor and Password security problem
Dave, I can't do that
I got sick of the abysmal battery life in my TX so I tossed it. I
bought a brand new Handspring Visor. Believe it, it was still in the
box etc etc. It has replaceable AAA batteries and a B&W screen so
battery life runs to months not days. It runs Palm OS 3.5.2H3.0
The problem I have is with the Password. I can set it but for it to
demand the Password on the next start up, I have to shut it down by
going to "Security," tap "Lock & Turn Off," then tap "Off & Lock" and
that will demand the Password at the next start.
BUT the problem is if I do NOT got through that process and instead
turn it off with the button or let it time out and turn itself off,
the Password is not needed the next start up. DUH!!!
I have scoured the Options and Internet and cannot find if there is a
way to always require the password regardless of how it was turned
off.
Anyone have any suggestions please? Other than that wrinkle, I love
it.

a Handspring Visor Prism and I would never go back. As long as I keep
any communication functions off when I'm not using them (bluetooth,
etc.), I only have to charge daily if I'm doing a lot of listening to
audiobooks or music.

Now I swap out the rechargeable batteries every 7 weeks whether they
need it or not. I have yet to understand why we needed Amp-guzzling
color screens on PDAs. As for Bluetooth same, same. I have a cradle
and 12 seconds synchs everything.
I have gone back to an era where progress was progress not just change
for change sakes as it seems today. For me THAT has been a great leap
forward. My Visor is always at the ready. Hell if the batteries get
low on a trip I can go into pretty much any store and buy 2 x AAA, and
bingo, full power again.
I feel sorry for those who choose not to see the light. LOL

I got my Handspring Prism for the color screen to use with the GPS
module I had. Maps are much easier to read in color. And when I switched
to the TX I started using a bluetooth GPS receiver, which was wonderful
until I finally went to a dedicated GPS unit. But I got used to the
color and could never go back to monochrome. :)
Plus the TX is much faster!

If I need to, I just plug it in. When I was using the bluetooth GPS
receiver, I had to plug in both the receiver and the TX or I wouldn't
make it on very long trips. But it worked. :)

Depending on how sensitive your data, you might get by with zip or rar
with password.
Interesting that you get 7 weeks out of a set of batteries.
Mine runs for about 4 hours before it wants new batteries.
Of course, if it doesn't do much, you won't use it much.
The problem with color pda's is not the color...although that
does affect run time. The problem is the huge memory that takes
power to keep it alive when it's in standby. It runs down in a few days
even if you don't use it.
There's a class of PDA that's flash based. The Dell Axim X51 series
is an example. It saves everything in flash so it can turn off the RAM
and be powered OFF. It'll sit for weeks in the drawer and still be ready
to go when you need it. And it's not a Palm.
But this may still be a problem because, to turn it OFF, you have to
hold the power button for 4 seconds then click a box. Given your
unwillingness to do a similar thing with the handspring password,
this may be unacceptable.
