I just moved all my holdings from Schwab to Royal Alliance. Using
Quicken 2013 Deluxe, I created a new account for Royal Alliance, and
Quicken then downloaded all the mutual fund current share amounts to
Royal Alliance as additions.

Now of course, all those shares are shown twice, once for Schwab and
once for RA. I would like to delete the Schwab account, which would
fix the net worth, but I don't want to lose all the history shown in
the Schwab Account.

Can someone tell me how I can do this?

In your Schwabb account register enter a "Shares Transferred Between
Accounts" transaction for each security.

Sorry, I should have mentioned, but neglected to do so, that I had
tried that (choosing to do it for all accounts, not one at a time).
Everything that was in the "From" account was removed (that's fine)
but everything that was transferred to in the "To" account was entered
as "added" (that was terrible) and all the details of what the
transaction was was lost.

It was a royal pain deleting the many many transfer transactions it
created, and putting it back the way it was..

Hmm, I did that in 2010 when I moved all my stocks holdings from eTrade
to Merrill Lynch. Each purchase showed up as an "Add" with the proper
number of shares, price and date acquired.

But all the details of interest, dividends, etc. are gone. And any
details of sales are also gone. I want the complete history of what's
gone on in the account, not just purchases.

Or if there's some way to keep the old Schwab account as it is, but
*not* have it added to my net worth, that would be fine, too.

1. Make sure your Schwab is up to date.
2. Add a reminder note as the last transaction that was Schwab moved to
Royal
3. Disconnect Schwab for the web downloads
4. Change account detail to Royal (copy Schawb to Notes for ref)
5. Rename account as desired
6. Add details for the web downloads to Royal

Now you have account with all detail and a note when moved to Royal
