We are using QuickBooks 2009 in a psychotherapy practice. The same patients
are usually seen weekly, although the day may vary, and the visit is entered
directly into the ledger. Since the same charge, description, etc. is
entered each time I assume there is a keyboard shortcut to duplicate the
previous entry, but I have yet to find it. I will appreciate any help.

Set up an item with the description price etc.
Then as you enter it in the item column it will come as that every time.

Thanks, Ron. Actually, this is what I have been doing; I was hoping that
there was a single key press that would pick up the previous entry rather
than having to punch in the item number. A small nuisance that gets larger
if you have to enter thirty or forty items at a time.

An alternative would be to create an invoice or sales receipt and then
memorize it. Then when you need to enter the next transaction just recall
that memorized transaction via the lists menu or Ctrl T. Double click on the
transaction to open it, change any information and then save it.

Starting with QuickBooks 2009, if you right click on a transaction you
can duplicate it. Verify the date & info & you're done!

When I right click on an item in the register, I get a menu which includes
"copy;" I assume this is what you are referring to, Michelle. Using this, I
managed to get the entire duplication process into a single keypress (F9)
with a program called Macro Express; I wrote a macro which starts in the
date column of the blank entry, moves the cursor to the item number in the
previous entry, copies it, moves to the item column in the blank entry,
pastes the item number and records the entry. The entire process takes less
than a hundredth of a second and I don't have to worry about entering the
wrong item number.

My thanks to all of you who responded. I still think this would be a good
function for QuickBooks to build in.

That's not what I was referring to, but I'm glad it worked for you.
When you right-click on a transaction (not in the register), then you
can select duplicate.
