Hi,
I wonder how many have experienced a slow startup with QB?
We are seeing 30-60 secs or more. Other progs open quickly.
Now I understand that QB opens the entire datafile...there is
a better way, but Intuit should already know this.
Our .qbw is only 8.2MB...not very large.
System is 2.5gig cpu, 1GB ram, XP SP3. System has been
cleaned and defragged.

All un-needed programs have been removed.
All program startups have been disabled for boot performance.
The contents of the quickstart tool bar is minimal.
Your thoughts?

Oh by the way, has anyone heard of a QB preloader that could
keep the core or a piece thereof in memory.
This would certainly help.

What year QB are you running? One trick is to always close the company
before exiting the program. When you launch the program the next time you
don't have the overhead of opening up a company file. This will speed things
up a bit. Plus if anything ever happens to your company file you will always
be able to open the program.

1 GB of ram! That's nothing today, get more. How fast is the bus? How fast
is the drive. How much space left. If the drive wasn't reformatted and the
operating system reinstalled it probably is not as clean as you think it is.
also 30-60 sec is not the end of the world.

I'd suggest 4GB of Ram. Works well for me with QuickBooks.
