I have a Canon LiDE 60 that I use occasionally for scanning magazine pages,
drawings, etc. I use the "ScanGear CS" scanning dialogue box that pops up
from Microsoft Photo Editor.

I'm not aware of having changed any settings, but suddenly everything seems
to come out too bright and saturated. The same images I scanned two days ago
now scan a lot brighter and somewhat "posterised" (as though the number of
colours was lower).

I have tried changing various settings on the Simple tab -- and even the
Advanced tab, though I never used that before -- but nothing seems to help.
Can anyone guess at what might have happened?

If your cropping is different and it now includes additional areas of
bright/white spaces or dark spaces, that can throw off the auto
calculations. It could be a number of things though. Try manually cropping
down to just the image area you desire in the final scan and see if that
helps.
