what is the IC data path? I ran a test under fix it utilities and it told
me that the the hardward failed the test. It said it could be a failing
interrupt controller; interval timer chip; DMA controller; or unknown
motherboard failure. How serious is the failure? Is there any way to
isolate the problem and fix it, or do i have to replace the motherboard?

None of the items you mentioned is actually a discrete component that can
be replaced separately. Try another test utility. If both agree that the
components are not working, MB's considered dead.
