Subject: XP Sound issues - revisited (and a fix)
I did it! I wrote a small program that can be run at startup that
initializes DirectSound and makes the sound issues go away. Here's how my menu popup event sounds with the 6.30 drivers and DirectSound not initialized: http://www.mindspring.com/~dpoch/bad.wma and here's how it sounds with my fixer program running: http://www.mindspring.com/~dpoch/good.wma There's a clear difference in the quality of the sounds.
