I have been trying to install the Windows 2000 (release to
manufacturing) eval copy on my BH6 System. However, the install
hangs at different points of the install. The hard drive light comes
on with no noise. At this point, I cannot even shut off the machine
with the power switch, have to reset and during the reboot, shut off the
power.

Ever since I tried the windows 2000 install, I cannot power off the
machine after shutting down NT 4.0 either. Pretty much have to reset
it and then
power off during the boot up. The machine has been running NT 4.0 with
no problems for over a year now. I have even tried removing all cards
except the video card and taken it back to a 300MHz machine.

Machine Info:
CPU: Celeron 300A (overclocked to 450)
Bios: updated to LN (did not try NV as lots of people seem to have
problems)
Video Card: ATI (AGP)

Any Info??

Thanks

I have a similar setup..but using Win2000 RC1 without issues...are you using
a ATA66 disk ? If so, is it ATA66 disabled? Ensure it is, since BX chipset
wont support it. This caused soooooo many probs on my BH6. How much ram?
Noticed in this NG many issues with one large piece ie.. 128MB SDRAM
(PC100)..
BTW..I also triple(?) boot Win98/NT4/Win2K... NT4 beauooootifull! Win2K at
RC1 bit iffy...cant complain!
Good Luck

Hi,

I just installed W2000 (oem) too, on a BE6. My bootup sometimes hangs for
about 20 seconds (I think it has something to do with a network card and
ATA66 I have installed), but if I leave it alone, it comes up okay. As for
your power switch, try holding it in for 4 seconds to shut it down
(something to do with the ACPI features.). I also found you can install
Windows 98 on the same drive partition with no trouble at all. I just went
into dos and installed it in addition to W2000. It comes up with an extra
'windows' folder with a suffix number to differentiate the folders. This
solves the problems with programs and drivers that don't have W2000 support
yet (which shouldn't be much longer).

Good luck, and hang in there,
E3
