On start up or a reboot My desktop icons come up as the standard
windows Icon and then, very slowly ,change individually to their
proper display .
Can somebody tell me how to stop this and get my normal display on
start up.
Thanks
Pete

This fix worked for me.

System Key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
Value Name: Max Cached Icons
Value Data: (default = 500)

I actually changed mine to 12000 and all has been well since.

If you're happy to navigate the registry, but have never modified a
value before, then do the following:

Click on the Max Cached Icons to highlight it
Click on the 'Edit' menu and select 'modify' from the drop down list
replace value in 'Value data' box with your own.
Click ok and close registry editor.
Restart and see what happens

Mine do the same - but quickly.

It's a background program... downloading new virus definitions, etc.

Do a net search for iconcache for more info.
