Hi,

I tried to burn some ISOs (parted and other things) on several DVD-RWs.
None was usable: NONE WAS BOOTABLE. Burning on regular write-once DVDs
worked fine. But DVD-RWs: only failures.

What is the reason for this insane bug? Is the boot sector of RWs messed
up?

Thanks,
--

[link] [link]

 Hi experts here,
I am looking for a linux distro, that is optimized ooB to run on cheap
SD cards wo hard disks.
It should take the specificities of SD cards into consideration
(blockwise writes) and hold as much as possible on ram (2 gigs
available) to avoid slowing down.
Debian based would have been nice, but is not a must.

 Hi all

Pretty much a total newbie to Ubuntu!
Installed version 10.10 on daughter's Vaio laptop. This is the second time
due to a trashed HD.
I notice when I start Ubuntu, there is no drum roll, although I think there
was during installation and final setup.
Is this just a themes thing?
Also, after restart I go to play utube video and there's no sound.

Having just read a 'Windows 8' puff piece in a paper the other day and
realising that the latest version of Windows will be able to restore
itself without all that silly messing about with drivers for your
hardware it seems that Microsoft are forging anew policy.

This coupled with their 'cloud' based 'office' system will mean the

So I need a shmem between a couple of processes. Targets are some
desktop distro* for testing, Tiny Linux for deployment. Both are very
very uniprocessor environments.

*sorry, don't recall, no NNTP at work, so...

I would *like* to simply use a byte of the resulting shmem
to "lock" it - if the byte is zero , it's not locked. I have Windows and Ubuntu on a dual boot. Ubuntu is my OS of choice. When
I want some software I usually find that Ubuntu Software Centre has the
software that I'm looking for. Occasionally I'll download the software
from a website.

One piece of software I wanted, a file recovery program I found in USC
