linux system performance

I will be starting a position as a Linux Admin that will require
assisting DBA's with montitoring system performance and resolving slow
database performance. Is there any hints or websites on how to tackle
this.

If you don't know what you're doing, how did you get the job in the first place?
Did a little "spicing up" (lying) on your resumé, perhaps?
No wonder the world's going to heck.
