fat tower
|
| |
given the current crop of 170mm+ coolers
I got to ask what are my choices for a mid to full tower
that can fit the new monsters (and close the lid on them)?
conservative (non gamer) design would be a plus
tnx

Odd speeds SSD>Flash_Drv
|
| |
To the USB flash drive, penstick, I'm getting CD speeds -- 3000 Kbtyes
-- _from_ the SSD. Anything else is about SSD class. HDs inherently
set their own limits to the SSD, whereas the SSD to HD is 2, x3 faster
than HD-to-HD.
Messed up situation in getting off the SSD, to the USBflash stick, for... more »

Why is the process of recognizing an optical disk so slow?
|
| |
Currently running a Core2 Quad, I find that putting in a DVD, CD or
Blu-Ray disk and waiting for the machine to recognize it and have it
be ready to write to still takes about as long as it did on my first
Pentium I machine. Why is this process still so plodding?

Got me a USB2 butt-kickin'

Migrated over to that Gigabyte G41MT-S2PT F2 (Intel x2 2.66). Looked
fine initially - problems anticipated largely weren't there.
Until I hit a wall with these Intel ICH7/8 chipset drivers. Looks
like the MB CD driver disk is shit, too. Damn header for Gibabyte's
menu is labeled VISTA, for one thing, does its own sys analysis, comes... more »

Need replacement graphics card
|
| |
I have reason to believe that my graphics card is flaking out. Whether I run Windows or Linux, there are times the monitor goes black with a message there is no input. It does this with another cord as well.
Here is what I currently use:
Abit IX38 Quad GT motherboard
MSI 512MB HD3870 OC PCI-E graphics card... more »

Thermaltake Toughpower NO LOAD cutout
|
| |
I put one of those ATX power supply testers on a Toughpower 850 W, and the
LEDs go out after a few seconds. I happended to have a Toughpower 750 W,
and tested it too - same thing happens. Other brands of power supply
have no problem with the ATX tester (which is just a bunch of LEDs and
resistors I presume).... more »

DDR2 1066 dies young leaves a pretty corpse
|
| |
A few hours a week, I have been testing old PCs donated to charity for re-use.
Recently, started seeing stuff that would have been high-end in its day.
Now every system I looked at with 1066 MHz DDR2 had at least one dead DIMM
in it. Would this suggest that the people who fit this overclocked the shit... more »
