I am considering purchasing a cheapish 17" monitor from a trade show and
have narrowed the choice down to either a KTX or Videal monitor. Does
anybody have any experience of either of these makes (I can get hold of
them for about UKP 250)?

Cheers

If you meant CTX I've got one of their Vl (value) monitors and have had good
luck with it. I would not hesitate to buy another one.

According to some sources, the best cheap 17" monitor is the Acer 78ie.
The CTX VL-700 isn't bad for a .28. I currently use a CTX EX-700, but it
doesn't fit the cheap catagory.

A price class of about $550 at your local Best Buy store would put your
nicely equipped with a Panasonic Pansync S70. I've had nothing but good
comments on my monitor. I love it! It's PnP and has a full 16.0" Viewable
area.

You can get a Panasonic OEM which is made by Belina for $355.
It has the same tube used in the Panasonic 17" S-Series and
it also used in some Viewsonic monitors. It's a good tube.
The price may actually be lower since that price is about 4
months old. I believe it's a 0.27 DP. -Dane

I have cheap KTX.....Probably manufactured in the same plant 8). I would
rather have it then a top of the line 15". You can spend alot of money on
a
monitor that does just a little more than what you need.

Please keep in mind that our original poster is not from the US...folks in
Europe (and most of Asia for that matter) don't enjoy the great prices that we
do on Electronics....when I used to sell consumer electronics, prices in
Europe were typically 30-50% higher on the exact same model

As a side note, does anyone know how good the CompUSA 17" brand
monitor is? It looks *very* nice in person, and the specs seem to be
outstanding. The price? 350.00 in the US. (See their website at
www.compusa.com for more info.) Anyhow, how good is this monitor? I
can get a 17" Princeton for 400.00, which might or might not be a
better deal.

Cheers,

Any "cheapish" monitor will give you comparable results, .28 and a
refresh rate of 60hz at 1024x768, which would keep the price at about
$399 US. You can usually catch a sale somewhere to get something for $379
or even as low as $349.

IMHO there are 2 points in upgrading a monitor, size and quality. Too bad
most people prioritize size over quality. Be kinder to your eyes, and
maybe spend the upgrade bucks on a Panasonic S50 (15")or S70 (17") with
(.27, 75hz@1024x768), or a Sony 100(15") or 200(17") ES/GS with (.25,
85hz@1024x768). Add about 200 bucks respectively.
