Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4, Q9450, 2 x 2 GB OCZ Reaper.

Was running fine until I had to reboot after some maintenance (Runs F@H SMP +
GPU clients). I get the standard single beep at the BIOS screen, but then it
hangs at

Memory T

Same place after several tries -- reset and power off. Even after an hour of
cooldown (running in a basement at ~65F).

The obvious guess is a failure in one of the RAM sticks. Anything else that
might do it?

Did you try testing the sticks, one at a time ?

That will be my first attempt tomorrow, when I get to it. Other stuff had
priority today...

I was just looking for any logical Plan B or C if that didn't reveal anything.

Exactly what was the maintenance? Software only or hardware too?

The first thing to check is that everything is seated properly. I have seen
PCs where the memory or PCI/AGP/PCIE cards have worked loose due to
vibration.

Next I'd remove all the hardware you can (sound cards, all but one memory
stick etc) and try booting. If that works re-add each peice of hardware
back.. you may well find that you put everything back and it all works...
Sometimes these problems just evaporate. Annoying but true!

Software only.

Tried each RAM stick individually. Swapped them to slots 2/4 instead of 1/3.
Pulled out all the cards and USB peripherals. All gave me the same thing except
the Gfx card -- when I pulled that out, I got a long and 3 quick short beeps on
power-up. Of course, I couldn't see what the screen said at that time...

Put everything back, except RAM is still in 2/4. Now I'm letting it just sit at
that point in the POST screen for a while. Someone in another group said some
Gigabyte boards do that, and will revive after 5-10 minutes...

Update:

Got an answer on the GRC TechTalk forum. Dunno why this showed up
yesterday, but it's running again...

OK... I walked away for a half hour, and when I got back it had booted!

Do you have any other references on the issue? Will Gigabyte replace boards
that exhibit this behavior?
