Hi,

I had bought one 2nd hand ASUS P4S8X-MX motherboard. In software
support chapter of its manual, it said original software support CD
had USB 2.0 driver. Because the board was 2nd hand, it didn't come
with original support CD, so I searched for USB 2.0 driver from ASUS
support site http://support.asus.com/ and found no USB 2.0 driver
there. I would like to ask if USB 2.0 drivers will be installed
automatically with Windows XP SP2?

Tks!

Yes, SP2 has the drivers. In fact, if you tried to install the driver
from the support disk and you have SP2, it would tell you that you
don't need it.

No way to answer the question; drivers for SOME USB 2.0 chips were
imbedded, but not all. And since we don't know either what chips the
board used, nor which drivers were embedded, we can't answer the question.

P4S8X-MX = SIS661GX/SIS964.

OK, so I look in my WinXP SP3 install, at the usbport.inf file, and I find...

; =================== SIS ======================================
[SIS.Section]
%PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7001&CC_0C0310.DeviceDesc%=OHCI_HYDRA.Dev,PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7001&CC_0C0310
%PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7002.DeviceDesc%=EHCI.Dev,PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7002

So at least WinXP SP3 knows about it. I don't have any other usbport.inf files
to look at, to tell you what support was like in earlier Service Packs.

USB2 drivers are supposed to be included in WinXP SP1 or later.

This file is pre-historic, and was released before SP1. It was released,
before Microsoft made the chip makers remove their files. You should not
really use this. I'm only pointing this out, to show that at one time,
a file was made available for customers. But it would be foolish at
this point in time, to use this file. In 2010, this file is inappropriate,
and is only going to make more of a mess than anything else.
