Those who engage in childish spats around here are going to soon become
invisible to a larger and larger number of acf regulars.

Obviously, they won't become invisible to those who go out of their way
to read their posts, and then respond to their "childish spats".

People who respond to childish spats and trollish behavior also have a
tendency to become invisible.

As soon as too many acf regulars become invisible, acf becomes a shadow of
its former self and might not be a viable newsgroup to very many previous
users or posters and lurkers at all.

You are absolutely correct about that.

I can't help but feel there will be a loyal remnant that will always be
visible here in acf.

Mike, I'm not sure what you mean by "invisible." My killfile for this NG
is huge. The threshold for the killfile is pretty simple: someone who
attacks someone else is over the line. The latest entry is for a guy who
calls himself "goober." It was easy for me to find three posts by
goober; each was a put-down of someone else: plonk. Killing all posts
from gmail has improved the S-N ratio wholesale.

It is definitely worth it to me to live without the few useful posts
from those whose behavior is primarily destructive.

What's important to me is to make my presence here useful to me. Having
to plow through the sheer quantity of posts by attackers, malefactors,
and squabblers in general, would make this forum intolerable to endure:
a sheer waste of time.

Bear is always on the edge. He contributes a lot; even if I disagree
with some of his choices, he comes up with some good contributions. But
he also is a major squabbler, initiating attacks that make him a major
contender.

When I look over my killfile log, I'm encouraged to see, from the
limited info presented, that this has been a good move. I've learned a
great deal from exploring freeware, and I'm grateful to the committed
few in this community. Without my killfile, I would not be able to
endure this place. Perhaps that's what it takes.

Salut!

This is simply not true. Mine is a strong defense. Should the 'regulars'

Bear, unfortunately, whatever you say in justification, you are playing
tit for tat, just prolonging the struggle. Bear: you're locked in a
death grip with the perps, almost becoming one in the process yourself.
They and you have taken over the NG, and I really don't want to be in on
your gladiator match.

The perps won't stop, therefore you won't stop either.

And it's quite clear when you, Bear, are the instigator when you begin
an attack thread yourself. For example, just today or yesterday, you
attacked Susan. I don't care who is right or who is wrong. I don't give
a damn who started it, Bear.

Since the others are truly pathological, I've hoped that at least you
would be more mature and capable of recognizing what's been happening.

Like many others here, I just want it to stop. You are the major troll
feeder on this NG, and you've resolutely refused to stop. I've tried to
reason with you about this in the past, to no avail.

I've got just about all the attackers on the other side in the killfile.
But I'm really fed up with clicking on your threads, only to find your
own flames leading the fray.

Won't you please see reason?

Something I've noticed in the newsgroups where a handful of people
promote and maintain ongoing flamewars is that the worst offenders
always excuse their self-indulgent behaviour by claiming that *they*
are the victims and are just defending themselves from the people they
continually attack.

It's like someone slapping you in the face and then claiming they're
the victim when you slap them back.

I also notice that they'll keep on attacking even if they're ignored
and no one bothers to slap them back ... as if they thrive on the
flamewars and just have to keep starting them over and over again, ad
nauseam.

Oh well ... time to crank up my killfile again. Only the so-called
"victims" keep nym-shifting, so it becomes a full time job.

Those who engage in sock puppetry automatically forfeit any claim to
"victimhood" by default. They create a spam-like annoyance for those
who would rather not be bothered by their online garbage. It's also a
telltale sign that their credibility under their primary nym has been
permanently destroyed by their earlier antics.

Hummingbird, you may find it easier to appreciate your situation in ACF
if you were not to ascribe almost all fake postings to me. (I have to
ignore your propaganda sheet's less than credible claim that any single
change of spelling of my dummy FROM address represents a new identity
of mine.)

Even if I make allowance for your preference to deliberately make wild
exaggerations for propaganda purposes (the "Big Lie" approach), you
have nevertheless frequently made the error of connecting me other
people or sockpuppets and their posts and that seems to have confused
you endlessly.

Maybe it isn't a very palatable notion that several people in ACF
dislike you. Perhaps you need to re-interpret what occurs to you in ACF
as the work of just one very, very bad person. And you believe that
person is me. Well, I know what I post and what I don't so when you
start making your accusations about me I find what you say is quite
bizarre.

It seems your chosen method of retaliation to these imagined offenses
is to make extensive use of sock puppets but in the end that isn't
going to endear you to anyone. You were using sockpuppets when you
first came to ACF and belatedly people realized exactly how many you
were responsible for. It seems to me the overall growth in sockpuppets
(as far as anyone can estimate these things) for one side of the
argument or the other side has grown massively ever since you first
appeared with your sockpuppets some years ago.

Hummingbird, I suspect many regular posters in ACF find your objective
to ban any discussion of Pricelessware in ACF to be highly
objectionable. I do.

If you don't like the discussions about PLW then don't read them. It's
that simple.

You and Mr Bottoms went berserk as part of your attempt to prevent ACF
functioning. Your intended price for permitting ACF to function was
that there would be no discussion of Pricelessware. As we know, you
failed and PLW continues to be discussed. However many people,
including myself, found your intentions and the methods you & Bottoms
used to be extremely objectionable.

What are you going to do next? Are you going to use the same hostile
approach to purging "UK.politics.misc" of its many off-topic
discussions? How about preventing sysops of paid for news servers from
posting to "alt.free.newsservers" which is what happens now?

Exactly is so special about ACF and PLW that you have to target it?

In the end don't be surprised when you meet opposition because it has
been very well deserved.

That's the old version, the new version you announced said this:

-------------------------------------------------------
The standard of posting on ACF has deteriorated a lot in the past 24-36
months as Bear Bottoms and Hummingbird and those who pretend to be
their supporters, lose ground and resort to ever more desperate
measures against peopl who are prepared to deal harshly with them
because they are a thre at to the newsgroup. HB and BB are pathological
liars and cowards and will be countered by Franklin, John Stubbings,
Ron May, iNcReDuLoUs and 'Q', all who seek out every opportunity to
deal with these destructive elements in their midst. BB and HB's slime
is equal to the Goebbels BIG LIE: - repeat a lie often enough and
people will believe it.

Exactly where did this Zero Tolerance Policy come from and who voted to
classify it as "ACF"? Istr you had to change the URL in mid-April for
some reason, but don't remember it from any time before the 1st week of
April. Imho, the wording seems unnecessarily inflammatory. ymmv.

Just curious.

You have to provide concrete evidence for making that statement,

Dumber and dumber. (((shakes head)))

Sherlock, have you noticed how the name "Franklin" is in both your
examples?

I have repeatedly suggested you killfile on the name "Franklin". It
beats me why you can't hear.

You have said that I live (or have lived) in the US. You are wrong.

Now, you say "Thomas" lives in the US.

"Thomas" is a sockpuppet and he doesn't actually live anywhere.

"Thomas" is your sock and you can make him live wherever you like.

Thanks, Bear.

They'll continue to goad you. They'll work very, very hard to try to
rile you into hitting back, which is exactly what they want. That's the
game of the malefactors. They live for your reactions: that's what they
get off on.

So, you'll have to ignore them. As you learn to take it in stride, your
psyche will become more peaceful. I think that the rest of us will be
supportive.

I suggest that you start your own killfile and just continue to add to
it. In fact, as is your wont, I'll bet that you'll come up with some
nifty way to handle this and will be all fired up to share it.

I'm just using an old version of Thunderbird. As I've mentioned earlier,
my killfile is huge. It tosses out an incredible amount of spam in this
NG every time I return. But the killfile does make it possible for me to
participate. At least in my experience, TB is pretty klutzy because it
won't allow me to delete messages after they get past the killfile. I'd
like something more robust, something that my brain can understand (I
haven't been able to figure out Xnews).

Unfortunately, newcomers become ensnared in the fray pretty early, and
the malefactors live for that, too. I've got no solution for that other
than for others to clue them in. But in the meantime, on the personal
level, killfiles can help make it work, at least in the sense that they
make our NG sane enough to be similar to other forums.

See how it goes.

I've ceased to contribute to this group anymore, mostly because I now only
come here once a week or less, and take a quick gander at subject lines. If
I see too many idiot headlines -- you know the ones I mean -- I'm gone
within seconds. I won't waste time to separate the wheat from the chaff, or
compose a message with my latest find.

All the enthusiastic regulars that were here when I first came here years
ago (5+) have long since gone to be replaced by the pathetic losers that
reside here day after day dribbling unfunny rants and insults hour after
hour.

Seriously, who are you people? How old are you? How empty are your lives
that this newsgroup is the highlight of your day because you've decided that
it's better to be despised than ignored?

Your life is ending. We all have a terminal disease. There will come a day
when your heart will beat its last ten beats -- then stop. Visualize it
deeply. Count it off in your head. Ten beats. Then it's over. And no doctor
can tell you when this day will happen. Ten years from now? Next month?
Tomorrow? Later today?

Is this really how you want to waste your remaining time?

Go outside in the sun and read a book, go to a coffee shop and strike up a
conversation with a stranger, join a volunteer group that requires physical
particpation, challenge yourself to run a marathon or even just a 10K run,
take a bike ride to a park and feed the ducks, walk the breakwater, go
camping/ bowling / golfing with a friend, organize an anniversary party, be
an ambassador and offer to take pictures of tourists, stick some coins in
the parking meter for a perfect stranger... join the human race. The race
will end for you soon enough so stop wasting what time you have left.

There's at least a shred of evidence in your admission that you use
sockpuppets. I guess you could dispute the credibility of your
admission, but that would seem more silly even than your claim that
you're a "victim" "defending" itself.

You don't say if you're using Agent already. Are you?

Just now you said you use a lot of filters in TBird. Why don't you
upgrade to a newer version? Don't bother moving to Agent.

You are on TBird v1.5.0.14. TBird V2 has been out a long time. V3 will
be here soon.

I stick with what I know.

The troll reads my posts. Pick part of its sig for "Find Global"
instead. I'll let the smelly sock guess which part of the sig I'm
keying on, <VBG>

Agent is payware, but it has a feature called "Find Global":

Screenshot: http://acfron.googlepages.com/FindGlobal.jpg

(1) Ctrl+G or clicking the "Find Global" brings up the window in the
screenshot.

(2) Paste any text string from the header (say, "X-Enigmail-Version:
0.95.7" without quotes) or from the body of the message (in this case
"PART OF TROLL'S SIG").

(3) Click the "Find All In Current Folder" button. The "Results"
window shows all posts with the common text element.

(4) Click "View All" Button and close "Find Global"

(5) You're looking at a window with all matching messages. Select all
followed by delete flushes the troll's hard work down the crapper.

Back when this group was getting sporged on a regular basis, I got
real good at the technique. Takes only a few seconds now to destroy
all of a smelly sock's hard work. More important, I get to snicker
behind its back when it insists it can't be killfiled.

Trolls who use sock puppets aren't exactly the world's brightest
critters.

I've told you before how you can avoid reading any of my posts.

Here, I'll tell you how again:

1. Don't read any post, unless you're familiar with the sender,
responding to Franklin J. Camper (alias "Ari", etc.)

2. Don't read any post, unless you're familiar with the sender,
responding to Franklin.

3. Don't read any post, unless you're familiar with the sender,
responding to John Stubbings.

4. Don't read any post, unless you're familiar with the sender,
responding to a direct (or indirect) reference to me.

It's that simple. Do you think you can handle it?

You will see only what you wish to see.

But you can't blame me because you want to give me attention.

I do not want you to read any of my posts.

I hope you never do read any of my posts.

I've even told you how you can avoid reading any of my posts.

But you still insist on saying that all I want is your attention.

There's something very wrong with you.

Well, Im already conTROLLing it. I forced it to drop its sig. It
can't use it anymore. What it doesn't know is that there are elements
that can be taken in combination to filter its spew. <VBG> We know
this critter very well indeed. It could killfile my posts very
easily, as can anyone else, but it won't. It's aftaid of missing
something, and because I know it's reading this, I'll bring back an
old sig I used to get under its skin before when talking about it
previously.

If possible could you let me know how to configure Nfilter to do this?
I looked at the headers in Agent and the only constant I see besides
Giganews is the version of Firefox and windows the troll uses. TIA

Good post. It is important people like us support HB and BB to oppose
the ACF clique.

See the TB filter is my sig. Your TB is too old.

Groan!
That's exactly what I don't want. To hell with _all_ the opposition
around here. Factionalism sucks. I've already seen it bring down an
entire cooperative in these parts: a chain of more than 12 cooperative
supermarkets, sporting goods, savings bank, car repair, natural foods
store: all destroyed due to factionalism.

If people want to do ACF, let 'em do it. I haven't been aware of them
being vengy. Support HB? You're joking, right?

Might I propose, Brother, a change of name of the worthy Organisation?

The Clique of Delusional Simpletons produces an acronym, just about,
of CLODS - reflecting, I think, the intellectual outlook of the members.
