Immediately above the link to the downloads ('Start Downloading SUPER Š
right now and discover this fully featured Multimedia Freeware') is the
message:
'To download from this site without looping back to the same page you
need to:
Enable your JavaScript, clear your MSIE cache, do not block your
http_referrer, do not use proxy.
Queries concerning this issue will not be answered. We do not know any
other answer to give.'
I'm using Zone Alarm Pro, and problem was that I had the Cookie Control
had got set to 'high'. It needed to be set to 'off' to allow access to
the actual download sites ('medium' was still blocked).

Am I missing something? My impression of Super to-date is that it is
SPYWARE that constantly tries to phone home (should you be unfortuanate
enough to find a download link and install it).
Has anything changed in the last 6 months since I removed this from my
system?

Mike, a lot of programs do this to continually search for updates. It
seems easy enough to block the program using your firewall, or am I
missing something?

I'm filtering out all Google Groups posts. No ad, cd, commercial,

Hi Ian,
SUPER's download page is http://www.erightsoft.net/S6Kg1.html and
scroll all the way to the bottom.
Hope that helps!
PS: Be aware that SUPER requires IE 5.5 in order to install because it
calls home at each program-launch to check for updates. (You have to
set your firewall to deny internet-access to SUPER if you want to stop
this---but denying access to SUPER also stops SUPER from streaming
media in from the Net too.) Lastly, all of the files in SUPER's
installation folder are either hidden, system, or read-only---or a
combination of these 3 properties, and so configuring them manually can
be a real pain.
SUPER is still the best media-converter, but improvements could be
made...
It redirects to another link.
The first post explains this :)

I wouldn't call SUPER a "spyware" product. It phones-home (like ET)
with each launch, but you can stop that by configuring your firewall to
deny access to SUPER. Lots of freeware programs phone-home at regular
intervals to check for updates, and most of the time you can tell the
program to stop doing that in their Preferences box or Options panel.
My issue with SUPER is that I cannot check a box to stop SUPER from
phoning-home.
As far as I know, SUPER doesn't transmit any data from my computer
other than to compare its own version number with the author's website
for updates. I was under the impression that "spyware" meant that the
program secretly transmits or broadcasts data that the user would not
normally release if he or she were given a choice. As far as I know,
SUPER is not "spyware" by that definition.
Although I WOULD like to see a check box in SUPER where I could turn
that phone-home option off... ;)
Take good care bro!
Yes, you're absolutely correct.
The page at http://www.erightsoft.net/S6Kg1.html has four mirror-links
on it where we can download SUPER:
http://updat4.free.fr/6AB90A1AB96C06AB363ACF/SUPERsetup.exe
http://gpl.download.free.fr/6AB90A1AB96C06AB363ACF/SUPERsetup.exe
http://updat.free.fr/6AB90A1AB96C06AB363ACF/SUPERsetup.exe
http://super.free.free.fr/6AB90A1AB96C06AB363ACF/SUPERsetup.exe
Whether we just click on one of the mirror links at
http://www.erightsoft.net/S6Kg1.html, or if we actually go to the
mirror sites temselves---either way we get a copy of SUPER...right? :)
Take care bro!
Forgot to mention:
The latest version of SUPER launches ffmpeg.exe by creating
C:\WINNT\system32\ShellDHCP\NtmsXml\ and copying ffmpeg.exe to that
newly created folder and running ffmpeg.exe from there. Copying
ffmpeg.exe before launching it causes some Firewall Application
Protection Programs and AntiViruses to create a warning-alert. As far
as I know, nothing can be done to correct this because the program did
not exist in that location before launch so a firewall or virus scanner
can scan and record it and expect it to run from that location. Each
time you deactivate SUPER, the folder and ffmpeg.exe are erased---so
your firewall and/or antivirus is going to go ape each and every time
that SUPER needs to use ffmpeg.exe.
Yes, I know. That's where the problem starts (see my original posting)!
As I said, the problem goes away if you set your cookie blocker to
'off'.

http://www.topfreeware.net simply gets you to the Erightsoft website
(which is where I started).
As I said, the problem goes away if you set your cookie blocker to
'off'.

Phil, have you tried using MediaCoder?
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediacoder/
I know it's slow, but it works or at least it did the conversion I
wanted when I tried it last.
As for playing streaming content, I always use Media Player Classic for
that.

OK, there was this short, green wide-eyed alien......

The program goes onto the internet and makes contact with an entity (in
this case, the author's website) without your knowledge, permission or
approval, and the program does not provide a way (usually a control
panel option or preference) to stop the application from doing it.
