I've decided it's about time I spent more time on keeping track of my money
(or lack of it sometimes).

I know that there are several inexpensive programs out there, but I'm also
wondering if anyone here can recommend a freeware program which could
compete with them.

I'll second Ace Money, I used the free version for a few years and
liked it so much that I bought the full version so I could keep track
of more then one account. It does not take up very much space on
your hard drive (a little over 5 megs) and I have six years worth of
data, for three accounts, stored in a file that is only 170 Kb in size.

Third ACeMoney...I am so close to buying the full version to have access
to more than one account (as well as all the bug fixes of the current
release).

The LFW version supports multiple accounts. If you've tried it I'd be
interested in a report.

Program: AceMoney (v 2.1.9)
Company: MechCAD Software
W: LFW

When I tried the multiple account version of AceMoney it would not
import the files from my bank accurately.(.qif).It left out the deposits
on my checking account.AceMoney Lite 3.83 although limited to one
account does import my checking info accurately. The checking is all I
use it for anyway.Just my experience.

Susan:

Lots of bug fixes were implemented in the later versions. They were
needed.

Hi Dave,

Thanks to you and Mark for the feedback. I'd been wondering why the
Liteware version is usually the version that's recommended - now I know.

I do not want to give the impression that the freeware version on
MechCad's web site is not worth it...it is great little product. I can
download the stock/MuteFund prices as well as keep bank data for my one
bank. I can run reports, schedule payments and configure it to work the
way I want. Its only limit is that you can only use one bank with it and
that since I use it in Linux (under WINE), the column sort does not work
in that environment, but that is minor.

My wife and I have been very pleased.

That problem is documented at
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3107
for those who are interested. You can add your email
address there to get notified when it's fixed.
