find things faster. All of my searches are based on filename, date
created, date modified or file extension. But that's just me. I'm
organized enough that I know where to find things without the help of
(for example) Microsoft's "Music", "Video", etc. folders and forcing
things to be sent there, or "libraries", or file indexing or any of the
other half-assed solutions which type B personalities need as assistance
to overcoming their organizational slovenliness.
Frankly, it's my belief that file indexing just makes it that much
easier for U.S. government snoops to locate crap they're looking for on
your system while you're online and they're snooping around in the

without having to wade through miles of constant search modifications

the computer I use daily... that doesn't hold true for

Everything saves a lot of time I'd spend skipping around to drives
trying to remember where I put a particular file.

using something like 'Everything'. They'd be just querying the MFT
file(s) themselves.

Everything is probably the most useful utility on my computer. It
works so well it actually changes the way you use your computer. It's
like google for your HDD, only faster and without ads. :)
If I tallied the times I use each of my programs each day, Everything
would be surpassed only by Free Commander and Maxthon.

That's the best reason I can think of to use Everything. You just
think you are organized until you play with Everything. I mean, how

that hurt our people. They cost us jobs, dumb down our kids, make
prices go up, living standard go down, and they persecute dissenters.
Maybe your government is warm and fuzzy, but ours is like a poisonous
snake you always have to be mindful of.

that MS makes a simple search for a file by filename a serious PITA
complete with warning which must be closed and agonizingly slow search
speed. Perfect example of their "social engineering", forcing people to
give up and do the indexing just to be able to run a simple filename search.
Probably the main reason I'm still using XP and will even after M$ drops
support for it next year.

Sorry, my mistake, I remembered this wrongly, long ago.
Any volume that you select to query is added to the database.
You cannot search without creating a database.

Of course though, there are other reasons I don't like those versions of
Windows and won't use them. And in addition to that, there are no
compelling reasons for me to want to "upgrade" to them. No new features
which are of any interest to me. XP does everything I want at this point.

Yes, it is true that you cannot use search criteria like size or date.
But it is important to understand that the results window (which will be
populated completely in a very short time) shows size, last access and
change and file type columns, which can be sorted (which takes
additional time depending on the number of files).
For my use, working with Everything, this works well enough.

It consists of a 926K EXE file, a DB file that runs 2-4Mb, and a tiny
INI file. It leave no nasties in your system, and when you delete it,
it's like it never happened.
