Visopsys is more advanced :-)

http://visopsys.org/about/index.html Visopsys (VISual OPerating SYStem)
is an alternative operating system for PC-compatible computers, written
"from scratch", and developed primarily by a single hobbyist programmer
since late 1997.

Appreciation of SkyOS was mentioned on his site by Andy McLaughlin of
Visopsys OS repute.

Robert Szeleney of Sky development fame was overloaded by trying to keep
up with all of the hardware evolution as he tried to develop his OS, so
he appears to have abandoned his OS development in favor of devoting his
efforts to putting a frontend on either the BSD kernel or linux from
scratch kernel. http://www.skyos.org/

Szeleney is the one who got onto all of the Ubuntu fanboi's sh*tlist
when he badmouthed Ub in the Ub forum http://skyos.org/?q=blog/1

Yes it could be good.

I installed this on my old pc tonight, and can't get it to boot from
the HD as yet, it appears to be expecting either a grub booter or
windows equivalent or somesuch, I used my usual method of not RTFM'ing.
The documentation and help is still a bit chaotic, but as you say it
shows promise. Something else to play with. It replaced ubuntu Jaunty
which was boring in the extreme, flawless install, detected USB wifi
dongle, keyboard, mouse, sound, graphics and monitor and everything
just worked and kept working, I even got Chrome installed without a
problem.
Where's the fun in that?

I didn't click the link, sorry.
But I thought that it stands out in the context of OS replacements,
unless if you want to go to Linux.

'Ubuntu' is Swahili for "Slackware is too hard".

Or something like that. :-)

Oh! what the heck Richard...

It's a klutzy/idiosyncratic enough to be crazy-making bit of slang.

You would be wiser.

Everyone will be eating the cats and dogs if I get in :)

Except for me and my chums that is.
