Windows 7 is way more secure than XP - goodbye administrative privilege
by default - just like Linux.

Windows updates have *always* been free to licensed users.

Windows 7 has excellent hardware support - Linux is a bit embarrasing on
this front - but, IMO, largely due to poor manufacturer support (which
is where I put the blame).
