I have a 170 gb Maxtor External Hard Drive that I haven't really used
since installing Vista. The Retrospect program doesn't want to work so I
need a new program to back up my C: drive on a regular basis.
It should do a complete backup including the OS then daily backup only
new or changed files, etc.
Anything out there?

thanks in advance

SyncBackSE is not freeware

SyncBack freeware is the free version.

Interestingly the freeware version has now added Vista to the list of OS.
I'd read small print if you're using Vista.

I bought the SE version because of it's tested Vista compatibility.

Both free and SE are great apps, but they don't backup the OS.

Vista has built in Complete PC backup which will do what you want I think. I
don't know if that comes with all versions. Business and Ultimate has it.
YMMV

Have you tried Maxtor for the Vista-compatible version of your software:

Due to the volume of garbage I filter out googlegroups. So do many

Thanks, yes I did...they said I needed to fork out 25 US bucks for the
Retrospect upgrade so I did but it didn't work and their Tech Support
left a lot to be desired so I'm trying to go Freeware (which most of the
machine is).
I'd really like something that is as simple as the One Touch was with XP
otherwise I'm wasting this fine Maxtor External HD.

Thanks to everyone for their responses to date...I'll have a look at the
suggestions and will continue to search if none of them meet the need.

Acronis True Image had a freebie that is still downloadable, and which
*may* met your needs.

Go to http://rapidshare.com/files/27852592/truimage7.zip and click the
"Free" link. Enter the characters displayed then click on "Download
via Level 3." Or, just use the file in this folder.

The serial number key is in the archive.

Strange. When I needed to upgrade my Maxtor software (albeit, still on
XP), it was just a case of find, download and install. Maybe its a
recession-driven decision by a stupid accountant who can't see long-term
profit for short term cost recovery!

Here's one person who will be very wary about Maxtor's after-sales
service before buying another Maxtor product.

After some research, there is no Vista compatible version for my
External Hard Drive available and it's unlikely there ever will be so
Maxtor (now owned by Seagate) is leaving many like me out of luck. The
One Touch feature was really very good and will be missed.
Freeware here I come.

Discwizard which really is a

free copy of acronis with seagate or maxtor drives

won't do incremental backups though
