SUPER looks interesting but I can't work out how to download it. Has anyone
succeeded?

<quote> SUPER Š Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer.
A GUI to ffmpeg, mencoder, mplayer, x264, mppenc,
ffmpeg2theora & the theora/vorbis RealProducer plugIn.

If you need a simple, yet very efficient tool to convert (encode) or play
any Multimedia file,
without reading manuals or spending long hours training, then SUPER Š is all
you need.
It is a Multimedia Encoder and a Multimedia Player, easy-to-use with 1
simple click. </quote>

If anybody installs it, could you check whether or not it installs
cygwin1.dll and cygz.dll in a system folder? There was a recent report
on the cygwin list about a possible GNU GPL violation.

Negative. Good kit.

Download page is (goto bottom of page - about 25 Mb)

http://www.erightsoft.com/S5FO1.html

Just installed it yesterday so it is a bit early for meaningful comments but
first impressions are very good, for something that is a 0.2-ish release.
The author describes it as a front end for existing well established free
stuff such as ffmpeg , mencoder etc. and it seems to work fine - converted
some old vcd mpeg1's to dvd mpeg2 very quickly and reasonable quality. It
will even accept avisynth scripts which is a big plus for me since I have
never been able to get avisynth to work on mpeg's (guess I'm too dumb).

Being somewhat paranoid, I monitor all installs and cygwin1.dll and cygz.dll
do not appear to be installed by SUPER. Puts a dozen *.ax files into
windows\ system32 and adds 20 something registry entries - mostly uninstall
stuff. Does not seem to be spyware.
However doing a search of all drives I find the cygwin stuff has previously
been installed by Imgtool, Toolame and VCDeasy - all freeware - is there a
problem with these files - please elaborate. Perhaps it is the lack of a GPL
license In the install? However the author does give credits and links to
the freeware used.

For anyone interested in video editing - worth keeping an eye on this one.

Thanks to you and baldtaco for the reports.

There is no problem with the files per se. Just anyone distributing
cygwin files should make it clear that the user gets them under the
terms of the GPL and can get the source from the redistributor. IANAL,
but AIUI linking to the site isn't enough -- the redistributor himself
has to make the source of the exact version available directly.
