Agent Ransack and DocFetcher are not really a good comparison. DocFetcher is designed to search through your documents and find what you looking for inside those documents.
Agent Ransack will find things in your pdf documents but document search is not what it is designed for.
A more relevant comparison would be Info rapid Search and Replace or Wilma desktop search.

How wrong you are, Mr Bottoms. Read the OP's post again and do your
research before you reply. Can these two programs search for text
strings in [all] these file types:

No, Mr Bottoms, they can't.
Mr Bottoms, you are a failure.

I render much into ASCII for indexing purposes within a search engine
effectively then rendering results from a database. Its form
originates from telephone companies and early retrieval methods over
regional listings for instantaneous voice print services. All aside
bananas and passion fruit, GREP or ASCII *nix ports, or Gibbons
volumes in HTML and pixelated musical scores originally dating from
the Renaissance. Everyone, though, is truly searching according to
scientifically conducted survey results in establishing what
activities most occupy people on a computer. From ages predating
them, I'm sure it's so much better to know at least that is
established now.

Win7 comes with fairly good index/search capability.
It virtually makes many search programs obsolete.

Unless it indexes files that Win7 does not.
Or if computer does not run Windows.

E.g. not sure if on Win7 , but Vista search
does not index context of ODx doc groups.

Seems comparable to EveryThing.
I usually use Cathy with background cathycmd file indexing,
it is indexing and searching really fast.
Latest non public 2.30 version does not have folder item limit
and skipped reparse points.
For content seatching I occationally use Vista Windows search.
DocFetcher sounds promising, not yet tried.
