I'm just looking for something that'll keep and dial a small list of
phone numbers, and I'm not very fond of the one that comes with Windows
XP. Are there any good freeware alternatives?

May have just answered my own question. PhoneDeck 1.3 performed very
nicely in preliminary testing. The URL is
http://www.tranglos.com/free/index.html.

You mean "dialer.exe"? What in particular is it that you don't like
about it? Just curious.

trial wares or warez for me, please.

Mostly the bloat, which is to say everything that goes beyond
presenting me with a list of names and phone numbers and dialing them
for me -- the "internet directories," "conference room," "animated
"dial windows," etc. -- but also the hideous Explorer-like interface,
which forces me to use big-ass icons for my contacts instead of a
simple list of names.

I don't have a modem in my computer anymore, so I've never used XP's
dialer. Just looked at it and man, you are so right.

I hope you found something you like.
