Only problem is that the SlimDrivers-setup.exe will not work if you
don't agree to installing the AVG toolbar as well.

Since I'm reluctant to install the AVG stuff, I have no choice but to
look for other freeware that can download and update drivers
effectively and automatically for Windows 7x64 Home.

Wow! This is a piece of work. I downloaded it and tried to open the executable, but it looks like it's written with
Borland Delphi, so I could only do a 7-Zip extraction. It looks as if it's only purpose is to open a communication
channel between your computer and the SlimComputer servers. There's a particular file that looks like its install script
that is full of references to AVG's Toolbar. It basically says; unless you allow the installation of AVG's Toolbar, that
will become the default search engine, and maintained so, we won't allow you to have our servers rummage around your
system. I particularly like the uninstall instructions at the bottom of the page; after the Control Panel bit:

"That's it! Doing an uninstall this way will remove all of SlimComputer's active components from your computer."

Note the wording: I'll probably never know, but I'll wager AVG's Toolbar is left behind.

Thank you for pointing this out to the group.

Might I suggest the freeware Revo Uninstaller? This program will find any
"leftovers" in your Registry, highlight them for you, and then give you the
option of removing them.
I've been using Revo for several years now, and with great success. It has
never caused any problems.
Of course if you have already removed the program...well, then, I fall back
on Ccleaner and use their registry cleaner.

SlimDrivers-setup.exe is only 654KB. Is this real or is it just a crappy web
installer?

A decent pair of utilities to have and use.

I wouldn't install it on any of my machines, but if someone needed to use it and I found credible information that it
actually works, then with their permission and the knowledge of what it does; I would.

Here's something posted by Yrrah awhile back that may give pause for thought, as it did for me.

R-Wipe & Clean Trial:
http://www.r-wipe.com/Disk_Cleaning_Download.shtml

It's a 15 day trial, but it will show (and clean) things in your registry that may surprise.

If you don't like installing things and use 'Universal Extractor', you can extract 'rwipe90.exe' from the downloaded
'rwc_en_9.exe' then extract the contents from 'rwipe90.exe'. You only need to remove the underscores from the files in
the '{app}' directory.

Although I'm already there, thread information is always welcome.

Thank you.

It's a downloader/installer.

I walk a different path and was just shocked at how slimy everything is getting out there.

That's the online installer. As mentioned in my original post the
installer will ask for your consent to install AVG toolbar and related
stuff. If you choose "No", then the installation will be aborted.

The truth is that you actually do not have a choice.
