Why Tea
Thanks Gordon. Just gave it a quick spin. What a
delightfully designed program. It definitely is a keeper.
It provides good memory stats and real time monitor,
but I don't seem to find any suggestion of how much
virtual memory to set or perhaps it's already optimal.

nCleaner is pretty old, and appears to be out of development. It can
still be useful on Windows XP, however.

Gordon,there is nothing wrong with nCleaner but the inexperienced may
shoot themselves in the foot. This program needs to be meditated on
before using. Create a good backup first, then think twice. It is
entirely possible to loose essential operating system files with
nCleaner. Careful!

this screwed up my icon display , now to see if it can be undone?
I restored the previous registry save, which was not entirely
possible, but it fixed the icon display problem.
I then rebooted with difficulty.
saved the registry again after cold boot.
reboot
saved registry with erunt a second time.
[3% reduction in size ]
all ok.

The worse new is you may also find you are missing some files.
Your experience confirms this in not a program for the 'hit & giggle'
approach. Good OS knowledge and cautious approach are required. Users
need to read instructions carefully and check through all options before
clicking 'Clean now'. After doing that, the full list of 'improvements'
need to be read and any you are unsure about unchecked. Whilst nCleaner
can make a lot of unwanted changes to systems if used without caution,
this is not unique to nCleaner. Users should always be careful with any
program that removes files, cleans registry or tinkers with system
settings.
Bottom line: if you don't understand your operating system and install
programs and run programs without exploring or reading what it does,
nCleaner is not for you.
