You say that you got 2.0.43.0, but I just downloaded the install
build and it was 2.0.42.9. The exe installation file date in the zip
file is 11/18/09, which matches the one that I downloaded back
in November. I think someone at their website must have put an
older version out there instead of the new one. Hopefully, it will
be updated with the latest version sometime soon.
From the changelog:
_________________________________________________________

Resolved issues with bookmarks.
Added support for ligatures When searching.
Added ability to toggle on/off all search providers.

Added timestamping (RFC3161) for digital signatures.

JMV, I have also had this problem with this site. It happened this
morning too. However, the _second_ attempt always gives the correct
file. The .exe file is dated 28.12.2009 (see the changelog). It could be
a local problem at my end (failure to flush the download cache?).
I did not try downloading it a second time last night, but I tried
again this morning and got the correct version of the install and
the portable version.
It might be a problem with your download cache, I use CCleaner
every night to clean out all the temp files and have never had a
problem with that.

This is part of an email that was sent by the makers of PDF-Xchange
Viewer -
"Important Security Update issued 30 December 2009:
PDF-XChange Viewer Product Range - update to release 2.044 recommended.
After consultation with Secunia Research (http://www.secunia.com)
Tracker
Software Products Ltd has issued an update to all versions of its
popular
Free/Licensed PDF-XChange Viewer product family including both end user
and
developer product ranges.
On December 29th 2009, Secunia notified Tracker after testing, of the
potential
for malicious code to be executed to compromise users systems via PDF
files,
using a very specific means - though no such exploitation is known to
have occurred
to date, we felt we should act with some urgency to protect our clients.
Within 24 hours we are pleased to confirm an update was issued to all
products
blocking any such opportunity and all clients and developers are urged
to update
any versions of our PDF-XChange Viewer product to ensure that their
systems are
safe guarded."

That's from a link on the PDF-XChange Viewer home page.
Now THAT is a good reason for me to update my copy. Thanks!
I agree. they should have made that info more prominent.
I don't use the portable version of the program and yesterday, did the
update. First, I had to uninstall the older version of the program using
the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel module because when I installed
it the last time, it was a custom install and I removed the checkmark
from the "Live Update" option.
Then I installed the new version after setting a System Restore point
and during the install, I ran Total Uninstall to monitor the installation.
The new version of PDF-XChange Viewer (AKA PDF Viewer) works well.
However, two things I wish they'd implement are:
1. Lockable toolbars
2. When, like me, a person opts to "Switch off all search providers" in
Options under "Search Providers", it would be nice if the search
provider dropdown on the Find Toolbar went away.
I just sent them an email with those suggestions.

Ditto. Downloaded & tested this version (now reported as version 2.0 build
45.0). Unlike Foxit (where I still use version 2.02) this latest version
has added more tools but IMHO still runs as fast and as well as the
previous version :)

I took the version info from the menu entry Help --> "About PDF-XChange
Viewer" I did not view the website's version info because I used used the
direct link at:-
http://www.portablefreeware.com/download.php?dd=1436
I should have mentioned the previous version I used was version 2.0 build
39.2 dated Aug 29,2008 and there may have been other versions since that
one and the latest.
Since the Aug 2009 version I noticed "a file attach tool" and further
entries next to the comment and markup tools e.g the Tools --> Comment
and markup --> Pencil tool --> properties toolbar. The properties toolbar
had a facility for changing the blending mode/ changing opacity. Its
possible the previous version I used had this facility and I had not been
aware of it. The File --Document Properties also has an extra button
marked "Additional Metadata". The About info box doesn't have the date
but has (c) 2009 and may be the same as the 30-12-2009 version.
Hey Yrrah, aren't you taking re-cycling a little too far? For gods sake,
new version, new heading - is that too much to ask?
>>I prefer the portable build. Great PDF viewer
I also prefer the portable build and yes it's a great prog as PDF
Thank you very much for this info.
