I downloaded Net Transport 1.51 back when it was freeware, never
upgraded, and have used it almost every day since. It's one of the most
reliable programs I've ever used. I realize it's not freeware anymore,
but that means nothing to me if I don't ever upgrade ;-)

I will presume that non-freeware types which are discussed in ACF can be
included. Also, some of the programs I use were freeware when I
downloaded them but no longer are (mostly PC Magazine stuff), so I'll
leave them out.

I don't reply to trolls like Andy Mabbett, Doc (who uses sock puppets)
or Roger Johansson, for instance. No adware, cdware, commercial
software, crippleware, demoware, nagware, PROmotionware, shareware,
spyware, time-limited software, trialware, viruses or warez for me, please.

Every once in a while I'll see a web page with information that I feel I
should archive. I save the website in Firefox, open the page in NVu to
edit it down by removing elements I don't need and then save it.

That's about the only use I personally have for it, since I don't run
websites anymore nor do I create them for others. Never have been
interested in style sheets at all eithyer. 80)>

The trick here is to list programs used every day. I have some that
autostart which technically are used every day. These include Windows
Defender, Spybot, WinPatrol, and uTorrent which I pause if I plan to
use the internet.

I only run spyware scanners once a week that that knocks them out of
the running.

There are really only 2 programs that I manually launch everyday. One
is my file manager, "xplorer2 lite" where I modified the registry to
launch "Super Finder" when I click on the find button in the file
manager. I don't actually move files around that much. I use it to
browse folders (the bookmarks help me navigate) and launch files by
double clicking on them.

The other program I use everyday is my web browser, "FireFox".

I think I will include SpywareBlaster as being indirectly used
everyday, at least when it blocks installation of spyware (though I
only update it once a week also).

I've read this group for several months and benefited enormously from
all your recommendations, comments and discussions. Here is my first
contribution as a way to thank you for turning me on to some great freeware.

FILE UTILITIES
Fox-it Reader -- the no-bloat PDF reader

GRAPHICS
IrfanView -- I've used many, but I've stuck with Irfan for a long time.
PhotoFiltre -- it does everything I want, and it's intuitive. I don't
want to have to get a master's degree to use The Gimp.

Hi El Bandolero!

You can install ie5.5SP2 (download) on a Windows95 System. Well,
Windows is not free, everybody knows. But ie5 is not shipped with a
Standard Windows95 License.

So it is Freeware. No sources, yes (MS developer?), but also Freeware
property belongs to the Author or Producer. I don´t want to start a new
Open-Source vs. Not Open-Source Freeware dicussion. It would lead to
nowhere.

'Drive rescue' is also listed under freeware, and the fully version
costs (and is probably better or more complex). MS don´t do so. Windows
you must have, O.K, but ie does not have a better buy-version. Also I
like Bill Gates Internet (respectively MS, but he is the only normal to
me) behaviour and I am not angry with him. Although, it would be
interesting when MS would made a IE for Linux :-) Most likely you would
pay for it :-), as Linux is already free.

Kind Regards,

Daniel Mandic

I need another "dispensation" ;-) for being able to contribute to
this thread. Whenever I work with one of my Internet connected computers,
I always use 40tude Dialog (Mail/News) and nearly always use KMeleon
(Browser). But there are sometimes days and weeks either without or
with non-Internet connected computers (usually laptops).

Besides Internet, there's no *constantly recurrent* task involving
freeware.

Thanks BeAr. I'm still chuckling because you were the *only* person who
questioned "every day". Apparently there are a lot of computer addicts
in ACF. . . ;)

Bad idea. Both should be run in sessions. Teatimer invaluable in noticing
registry changes and denying or allowing changes. Winpatrol essential in
sessions also for same reason and for others reasons. If conflicts occur
with your other programs you should try to work them out, not exit Spybot
S&D and Winpatrol.
