Looking for help. Can't turn off my Olympus C770!

Hi all. Don't know if anyone here can help, but my Olympus C770
camera seems to have broken today.

I have used it for the past three years and I like the camera. But
all of a sudden this afternoon, it lost its ability to turn off.

The camera still takes pictures and video, so those functions of the
slide switch are working. But in the Off position, it still shows the
latest photos.

Eventually, it does time out and go to standby mode. But the lens
barrel remains extended and it doesn't actually shut down.

Also, it won't delete pictures. It says they are being deleted and
shows a "Busy" bar, but then the pix are still there.

Sure hope I don't have to ditch this camera. Anyone have any
thoughts?
