NVDA-ready for the blind masses and serious comp-users
Yes, there are still a few aps that I need to use JAWS with, but there are others that work better with NVDA.   Does anyone know if there is a way of recording films or programmes from Sky to a PC? vinux site has bandwidth now....
A while back there was a thread mentioning the vinux project/linux tweaked to come up talking for the blind among us, but when I went there and tried to down-load it was slower than .gov paying down its debt. I got best speeds of 2/4 KB per sec, and even with an accelerator making up to ten connections on my good isp at home rarely got over 20 KB and... more »

Home-recording of audio book - seeking suggestions or tips
Hello! I'm an aspiring science-fiction author, and I've decided that the best way for me to tell my stories is to just speak them out loud. That gave me the idea to publish them as audio books on the web first, before having them transcribed to text format. I'm sure there are methods and formula that book readers use when... more »

maybe OT - small portable VGA monitor (and/or VGA glasses)
This is _probably_ off-topic, but I had a feeling someone here _might_ know: .. . I was visiting a new blind friend this evening. Her living companion is (moderately) sighted, but extremely deaf, more or less beyond aids; the blind friend normally communicates with her by writing something on her palm with her fingers, which is slow. Sometimes she types on a... more »
