Seems to me that certain companies are making money off the backs of the
blind by charging over the odds for basic computers if supplied with a
screenreader installed.
Of course there is nothing wrong with selling a carrot for 20,000 pounds if
they want to, but I think we need to get the message out there to less
computer literate newcomers that a basic machine and a free screenreader
like nvda can often do all a home user will require withoug costing mega
bucks.

I think a lot of times they are hoping that a charitable org or some branch
of big corp is doing the purchasing. They buy all sorts of things and pass
the actual cost down to the contributors or other sources of capitol. The
subsidised blind person might not see the full price, at first.

Very true. also the government over here runs access to work and to my mind
gets taken to the cleaners on costs like this, when to be honest sensible
buying and more money spent on the training of the person would actually be
more valuable.
