I am trying to install the latest Ubuntu on my Toshiba laptop. I tried going the Wubi way to install it as for some reason I just can't seem to be able to just put the CD in and boot into the Live Ubuntu. The Wubi installer gives me buttons ie for running demo Ubuntu but nothing seems to be happening when I click it or finish and I don't seem to be able to get it to reboot for accessing Ubuntu. The only thing I can think of is to find a Sighted person to reconfigure the boot menu but I don't have anyone Sighted available with the technical knowledge of Linux. the laptop is a Toshiba which I bought forom Staples this year.
try vinux.org.uk I think it is(there is a small thread in this group on this) Their next to last version uses ubuntu, and on there d-load website there are links for files designed to installl to usb drives that are supposed to come up talking. Once you have this, I think you could updatte easily if you need or want to-at least you could learn more about the os so that you will have an easier time....They have resources to help with installing on windows systems on their site also. When I get the time I am going to try one of their linux packages, and when I do I will post on it...Think their are a couple other guys on this group that use this, so maybe they can help you sooner. Good luck, and make more sighted friends. Burt Henry

If it is a Toshiba you can alter the boot order in the control panel under Toshiba Notebook setup or similar. Use Vinux instead of Ubuntu, it gives more information when booting etc.
Here is another that should have been posted around 20.30 GMT, but did not go out. It looks like t-bird may not be saving usenet msgs correctly when working off-line. I find them in my sent mail, but not on the list, and couldn't directly forward msg from sent usenet msgs either. try vinux.org.uk I think it is(there is a small thread in this group on this) Their next to last version uses ubuntu, and on there d-load website there are links for files designed to install to usb drives that are supposed to come up talking. Strange, as I saw the original post you sent on this thread.
