Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic is excellent and free, but has an
annoying Notifier popup window that comes up frequently as a result of online
updating.

To stop this Notifier popup window on Windows XP Pro (not XP Home or other
versions of Windows):
Click Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy
Select Security Settings -> Software Restriction Policies -> Additional Rules
Click Action -> New Path Rule
Enter:
Path: %programfiles%\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avnotify.*
(or whatever path you installed it to)
Security level: Disallowed
Close all windows
